HibeeJibee Posted March 16, 2015 Share Posted March 16, 2015 It is time. Back by popular demand, the World Cup Last Man Standing is here, as we start on the Road to Russia 2018. Rules are almost unchanged from last time, with one exception... the WC2014 LMS failed to make it past the first summer, and many people had the misfortune to miss a pick and thus got eliminated for not making a selection (which is more liable to happen when qualifiers are every few months and not week-to-week). For this reason each player will have a single 'life'. This will enable them to remain in the competition if they get one wrong result; miss one pick; make one invalid selection; or join the competition for the second block. To make things slightly easier and cleaner matches will now (as far as possible) be grouped into blocks of 3 days at a time, and matches outside of international breaks will not be included. Full rules: WORLD CUP 2018 LAST MAN STANDING 1a. Your first entry must be in by the advertised cut-off time before the first tie in first block of matchdays in question. That's the cut off point for entries. You must come back to this thread every subsequent block of matchdays (providing you have survived the previous block) and pick another country before the relevant cut-off time. Just remember you can't pick a country you already used. 1b. Due to changes in the international calendar, the demarcation of blocks of matchdays within each international break will be at HibeeJibee’s discretion. Wherever possible they will be in blocks of 3 days, and wherever possible with at least 1 day's gap in between. In the case of knock-out ties the block may be a collection of first or second legs. 1c. In the unlikely event of only 1 or 2 games being scheduled for a particular point, they may be included under an adjacent block of matchdays, again at HibeeJibee’s discretion. Otherwise they will not be used, as for example this might see only Ghana v Comoros scheduled, and if nearly everyone had already used Ghana they'd have to take Comoros and would probably go out. 1d. Matches played outside of international breaks will not be included in the competition. 2a. HibeeJibee will have the fixtures ready before each block of matchdays. 2b. Advertised cut-off times will be at least 1 hour before the first kick-off of a game in each block of matchdays. That will obviously vary depending where in the world the fixture is. 2c. If you miss the cut-off time or make an invalid selection you are knocked out (but see 3b). This ensures only committed players continue to play. 3a. Win only! Draw or lose and you're out. 3b. However, in a change to enhance the competition, each player will have one ‘life’. This means they can stay in the competition if they suffer one draw or loss; or if they miss one cut-off or make one invalid selection; or if they join for the second block of matches (i.e. forfeiting the life in order to join one block of matchdays late). 4. You can only pick each country once. HibeeJibee will maintain a table of picks on the first page, but you should keep track of your own choices yourself in case of omissions or mistakes. 5. If everyone remaining is knocked out in the same block of matchdays, they will be put back in for the next block until we have a winner. 6. If a player gets to the unlikely stage where they have already picked every country still playing matches, they may begin to pick countries for a 2nd time. As ever, before each cut-off you must pick a team... using all your footballing knowledge and skill... which you believe will win their tie. If they fail to win, you're out (unless you have your 'life' in which case it will be expended). If they win, or your 'life' is used-up, you're still in - and come the next set of matchdays you must pick a new team, and the process repeats itself. Post below that will contain information on the next block, for easy reference, and that information will also be posted after each preceding block is completed as a reminder.
