Can someone remind me how Europa League qualifying works for next season?

If Celtic win the SC, do the losers no longer qualify for Europe?

Looks like the Top 4 in the Premiership might be the 4 that qualify for Europe, unless there's a shock in the cup.

Does 2nd in the league lead to QR2 again? Or has this changed to QR1?

There's a lot of very big European names struggling to even get into the Europa League spots in their leagues. If they manage it though, some potential glamour ties around QR3 if our clubs can make it that far (that's the round Aberdeen played Real Zaragoza this season).

Borussia Dortmund are making a late surge. They could win the German Cup, which would put them directly into the group (but mean Schalke could be in qualifiers). If they don't win cup they are about five points adrift of last qualifying place, so could be in qualifiers if they keep winning.

In Italy, both Inter Milan and AC Milan are struggling to make it. However, if an Italian team wins the Europa League (Napoli and Fiorientina in the quarters) and therefore qualifies for the Champions League, one of the Milan clubs could sneak in and nick their Europa League place, as both Napoli and Fiorientina are in the mix (and one or both I think are still in Italian Cup).

In Spain, Villareal are looking likely to be the La Liga entrant in QR3.

Liverpool or Man Utd potentially from England, though with Chelsea winning league cup I think they would need to finish sixth to be in QR3, and Liverpool of course can still win FA cup.

So aye, some potential tasty ties there. Would bite your hand off for Borussia Dortmund v Aberdeen.

Aberdeen never played Zaragoza.

We were pretty unlucky drawing both Groningen and Sociedad this season.

Assuming we qualify again, would hope for a kinder draw at QR3 stage.

Think the whole of Scotland would like to see you get a kinder draw and make the groups this season coming.

There's was some right Pish teams seeded In with real sociedad in that pot. Hoping for a kinder draw this year would I be right in assuming if the Dons finish 2nd and celtic win the scottish cup the Dons will go in QR2 ?

I concur with all the sentiments in this thread.

Good luck Aberdeen, we desperately need Scottish teams doing well in Europe again. Hopefully you can build on the momentum gained this season.

You would correct in your hoping, it seems like the Scottish clubs get hit with the bigger fish just before the group stages at times. Or do the rest of European clubs look at the draw with Scottish clubs and then think "who we playing in the next round" ?.

I hope all the Scottish clubs reach the group stages in both competitions or all in the Europa League groups when the group stages begin. The countries coefficient would take a massive boost with all the clubs in them and eventually all of them automatically reaching the group stages after a few years with at least 3 of our clubs in the group stages and beyond and all the Euro cash that comes with it bettering our league as a consequence. Would end this shite that gets peddled that Celtic is single handedly keeping up the coefficient themselves.

I'd love to have the dilemma on a Thursday night with which Scottish club in Europe am I going to watch. :)

It would be amazing and have that knick on effect as you say where everything will gradually get better.
