ek boy
Watched Ashfield at Lanark on Saturday and it was sad to see what has happened to them.If I'm not mistaken will that be 3 relegations in 3 years. It's amazing how often this happens Vale of Clyde also done it recently as well. They didn't have much quality apart from young left back. And they received 2 red cards with 1 for an awful tackle and the other must have been mouthing. Can anyone explain how this has happened? Budget cuts maybe?

Budget cuts maybe? Was told they totalled 3 reds the week before so this will play havoc with their resources, not to mention morale. I take my hat off to the guys who follow struggling clubs who rarely win games, no matter what.
Kilbowie's Finest
They have struggled ever since Stevie Rankin moved to Irvine Meadow and took a load of his decent players with him. They have never really recovered
RobRoyGuy
Ashfield were always going to go back down the divisions once rankin and most of the team left. They simply don;t have the support , resources or bodies to function at the top level for a sustained period. Maybe they should be new tennants who can contribute to the budget . I've heard that their manager has a good head on him jimbo, and I'm sure they'll be hop ing that their bottle doesn't crash and that they take at least a pint from this week's game. LeedsPhil
Didn't selling Saracen Park to the Facennas generate some immediate income, coupled with the knowledge that playing there thereafter would be rent free. That financial boost should help to bring success on the pitch. Speaking of which, I see that the improvements the speedway people are doing to Saracen Park mean it's off limits for football this Saturday (21st Feb). Ashfield v Wishaw will be played at Wishaw, but will still count as an Ashfield home game since the reverse fixture has already been played. Anybody been told how long Saracen Park will be unavailable for football due to these works? The first speedway meeting there is Sunday 29th March, but hopefully it's sooner than that. Ashfield have got five further home league fixtures to play - Renfrew, Dunipace, Larkhall, St.Ant's, Blantyre Vics. Vics are the only one of those they've not already played the away game at. Plus Ashfield got a home draw in the Central League Cup (vs Shettleston).
Theobserver
seen them a fortnight ago v Carluke and they were okay first 20 minutes, but their poor discipline after that turned the game on its head...would appear this happened v Lanark as well... To be fair to the speedway, they kept the stadium in good condition and so saved Ashfield cash in that respect. I'd like to hope that the new owners do a bit for the football club as well as the speedway. They do seem to be making quite a difference to the surroundings. Maybe Ashfield FC can take advantage of that.
