Spartans v Gretna

Nice to see Paul Sludden bag a couple of goals today, would have liked to have seen him return

for Stirling.

At least his goals today prevent Gretna from going Top, wouldn't have been much to crow about anyway

having played FIVE games more than Edinburgh City.

Was a cracking game yesterday. Brandon Longcake really is a top player for Gretna. Think he's superb.

Was funny though, up on the Pilton Veranda we'd been commenting on how the ref hadn't given us any breaks all afternoon then there seemed to be a bit of seethe from a few Gretna fans for the very same thing.

Good to see Sludden get a couple of goals. He could have got a couple more too had the ball just landed right

It's strange that Simps because from the windy miller tower it seemed like we got the majority of the ref's decisions.

It was a cracking game & I was feeling quire nervy & not just because of the wind swirling around up my gantry

PJ on another day would have been walking out of AP after the match with the ball under his arm. I'm not one for excuses but these last few weeks to quote Hoofy "if it wasn't for bad luck, we'd have had no luck". I still think we are over-cooking things, when we've got a scoring opportunity we are taking that extra pass instead, very much like Man City against Chelsea.

I'll bang the highlights up later, oh & it was good to see some P&B faces again, hope you had a good day out & that your journey home wasn't as miserable as the weather.

IMO Spartans 1st half against the swirling wind played well , couple of goal mouth scrambles and a shout for the ball crossing the goal line, some desperate defending by Wallace and Inglis and outstanding saves from Wright, 2nd half Gretna stepped up the pace excellent strike from Longcake got us back in the game but good save at the end from Swain. sealed it for Spartans, nice to meet u Grim need ya long johns on mate up in that gantry as it was a tad cold may I say. just to say thanks to Alan and is 2 mates had a drink with in Bar before the match, enjoyed the day.

Some days your the statue other days your the pigeon

From my point of view we got just about what we deserved. We never coped with the wind straight from the Arctic in the first half. Every through ball seemed to get over hit. We are capable of a lot better but did not produce it when it mattered.

The officials did help either. Spartans bullied us the first half and got away with it from the ref. Big Iain Anderson took a sore one in the first half when he was barged in the back in the first half. The "crude" challenge went unpunished and it was obvious that Iain was feeling the effects for the rest of the match. The "seethe" against the ref from the Gretna fans resulted from when challenge after challenge from Spartans went unpunished and just as we thought that he had forgotten his cards and straight after an obvious yellow card for Spartans, he booked Gretna's Halliday (deservedly). for a challenge in the middle of the park. It is the inconsistency from the officials that annoy the fans.

When Spartan's got their second goal it was then that Gretna upped their game and Longcake scored yet another superb goal from long range. However it too little too late. We did get the ball into the net in injury time but the ref ruled it out for a foul on the keeper. I hope Grim doesn't edit that out as I am yet to be convinced.
