St Johnstone v Aberdeen, 23/1/15

Recommended Posts

Unless Motherwell do us a favour this week, we'll be looking to win this one to go back to the top.

With Taylor injured we'll be forced into changing the team for the first time in weeks.

Can see this being a draw, with one mind on the League Cup semi.

Is Taylor a big miss?

He'll be a massive miss, granted at the start of the season he was still finding his feet so wasn't up to pace but since before the clean sheet and winning run he's been absolutely immense next to Reynolds so hopefully it's not a serious injury and he'll be back soon.

What's the re-shuffle likely to be?

Hard game, Saints have had a solid season so far.

Taylor will be a miss considering his recent form. Imagine Considine will move into the middle with Hayes slotting in at left back. Flood to probably come in to the starting line up.

I'll go for a hard fought 1-1, followed by a few sellick fans creaming their pants at a couple of dropped points for the Famous.

It's a guaranteed defeat simply because it's my birthday and we never win on my birthday.

Even going back to the 1-0 defeat by Livi in the Scottish cup.

Edit: just checked and, no surprise, I'm talking bollocks. Since I started following the Dons, we've played 9 times on my birthday, winning 3 times against Motherwell, Hibs and Killie. drew 3 times and lost 3 times.

I'm not a jinx. Hurrah.

So we will win 2-0 with a Rooney double.

What's the re-shuffle likely to be?

As Karl said above it'll definitely be Considine moved in one and likely to be Hayes dropping into LB and Flood coming back into the middle but then i wouldn't be surprised to see Logan go to the left and Shaughnessy going to RB, just have to see what Del does.

Aberdeen should have the advantage simply by not having to play midweek. Can't really make any comment on it until we see what saints do tomorrow night I guess.

If Aberdeen play with pace and look to get in behind us, they'll rip us apart and win comfortably. Hopefully they'll come here and pass the ball in front of us like the first game between the sides.

We're in for a struggle over the next few days.

We have gone 2 weeks with no game because celtic took up the option of binning the game the other week. We now have 3 games in 6 days. You really despair at the folk that organise our football sometimes, it's not as if it's April time and we're having to squeeze games in to get them played, or that one of them is a cup game. Mental.

If Saints get anything out of Fridays game it will be a great achievement.

I thought we played very well at home on New Years Day and it could have been 4 or 5, so was reasonably confident that with a good performance we would win this one.

That said I was convinced we'd horse Dundee so not sure now!

That was the best performance of the season I'd say, not nearly reached that standard in the three games since.

Aberdeen nearly sold out all the tickets for the North Stand. They are hoping to get a cash gate for this game so expect that to be in the Main (west) Stand.

Excellent.

Aberdeen fans will have access to the Family Stand too. Adult and 2 kids under 12 can get in for £15 and it's PATG.

Not interested in Aberdeen yet.

We have ICT tonight (if it's on!).

On the bus back, or overnight on a stuck bus, I'll consider how Friday may go.

I've heard that we have intelligence that the Dons fans are intent on causing trouble. Consequently they will be overcharged and treated like £@it.

Hayes more likely to be a miss attacking wise than a liability defensively?

Reckon we will either lose both games this week or win both. It's the Saints way.

Yeah you're right there. Hayes isn't the best defensively but can do a job. He is however our most direct attacking player. Probably the only one who actually runs at defenders who are facing him. Pawlett runs past them and McGinn turns them very easily to get a cross in but when you're against a bank of defenders Hayes is the only one that can single handedly take them out of the game. We could play Shaugnessy in the centre of defence and keep Considine at LB. That would keep our front 5 intact.

This would be my choice, or even Scott McKenna but I know McInnes doesn't like to throw them in at the deep end. I'd rather have a young player but with everyone in their familiar position than shuffling everything about for the sake of experience. Our defence is based heavily on being a 'unit' so you'd hope a young player would cope within that unit. If that doesn't sound like cliched drivel I'll have even surprised myself.
