The old whack on the side of CRT TVs was a good one.

When the first XBoxes came out there was a problem with lead free soldering that caused shorts on the BGA chips, eventually leading to RROD.

Once watched a video on YouTube that claimed to fix it what you needed to do was wrap the XBox in a towel and switch it on 'till the solder reflowed?!

No thanks.

Working in manufacturing I've seen some real cowboy stuff at times when falling behind orders. Absolutely scandalous tbh.

The towel trick worked with a lot of RROD consoles. Not them all, but a good number of them.

Washing machine packed up yesterday, 20 mins of fucking about = nothing, swift boot to the front of it = cycle started. Fingers crossed its been alright since

This will be out of date, however it hasn't stopped me before.

A man is stopped by the police for having a faulty headlamp, 'no problem he says' giving it a kick and it glows into life, 'that's fine' says the plod, 'any chance you can give your road tax a kick, it expired two months ago'

Dangerous doesn't even come close, Bit like replacing a fuse with a screw.

Once, whilst gouching hungover at a friend's house, his Gran made an impromptu appearance and, after walking around the house doing whatever old women do, she came into the living room to say that his laptop would overheat if he didn't go up to his room and switch it off. Our tounge-in-cheek suggestion of opening his bedroom window in order to cool it down was funny to begin with, but a lot, lot funnier when we discovered that she'd actually gone and done exactly that.

My first car was an old VW Polo that ended up blowing the cylander head gasket which needed skimming......despite getting fixed the car still overheated unless I had the heaters on full heat & full blast.....summer driving was fcuking torture!

my mate bought a Renault with a sun roof which started leaking. He took it back to the garage (a shower of cowboys. Let's call them something like.... Arnold Clerk). He was advised to smear Vaseline around the rim of the sun roof....

Hitting anything with a loose connection has a chance of moving the wires inside and causing the connection to reestablish.

Sega Megadrive game freezing/not loading? Remove cartridge and blow heavily inside.

Having stuff like dust which isn't a good conductor get in the way could cause problems.

Blowing the dust away fixed them.
