Ayr’s junior football club, Whitletts Victoria are looking for former players, managers and coaches to get in touch to help the Club celebrate their 70th anniversary.

The Vics’ played their first match in August 1944, a 2-2 draw with the now defunct Ayr Newton Rovers with the highlights of an eventual history arguably playing in front of 20,100 spectators at Shawfield in the 1956 Scottish Cup semi final and then winning the Western League (South) championship the following season.

The club also enjoyed a successful period in the 1980’s, winning three Ayrshire Second Division titles and a couple of local Kyle & Carrick Cups under the guidance of George Maxwell, Jim Gilmour John Crawford and Ossie Findlay.

Vics Vice Chairman Andy McKissock said that the Club are looking to make contact with their former players and invite them to play a part in the Clubs’ celebrations.

“The club has had a checkered history history but a very interesting one for followers of the grassroots game and we’d love for former players and managers to get in touch so that we can hear their stories about the Club and its’ past.”

“In many respects given the clubs’ history it is an achievement for the Club to be celebrating its’ 70th anniversary but the future is now looking very bright for Whitletts Victoria and we are steadily building a solid foundation for Ayr’s junior club to develop and grow and are confident that in time we can make an impact on the junior game but for a club to develop, we believe that it has to have a grasp on its’ history and the people involved in it”

If you played, managed or coached Whitletts Victoria, the Club would love to hear from you. Contact John Dalton on 07759 637 350 or via e-mail at john.dalton@whitlettsvictoria.com
