Vale v Gala

BUZZZZ

Recommended Posts

Due to yesterdays intended early kick off and being in the area I thought I would pop in a and get a rare opportunity to see Gala but unfortunately with it being a nice day of almost 10 degrees and with little to no rain in the last week, I never gave it a thought or bothered to check that game might have been canceled which it was!

An old guy told me it was because of a frozen pitch but the surrounding parkland was perfect and I even tried poking a stick in it to see if it was frozen underneath and it was not. The old guy told me that the last Vale v Gala game was also cancelled under what seemed to be very good conditions so is there some other kind of problem or politics going on here that they dont want to play each other?

I see Gala are away to Vale 4 times this season and with 2 to go would it not be prudent to change the next one in a fortnights time to Gala as having a pitch that is so easily deemed unplayable can hardly be looked upon as a home advantage and I cant see the conditions at Vale getting any better this winter than they were yesterday, so presumably this next fixture will also be cancelled ?

Coldstream and Hawick were also frozen - similarly Lauder, St Boswells and Canonbie Bowholm in the BAFL (oddly the Coldstream Amateurs game was on).

Vale-Gala was off waterlogged on October 4th alongwith Duns, Ormiston and Stirling Uni EOS - as well as Gala Hotspur and Biggar.

Vale's seen 1 other game waterlogged, on November 8th (v EK) alongwith many others.

Doesn't make for a particularly strong conspiracy theory, IMO.

Didnt say anything about conspiracies, just making the point that the pitch looked excellent with no hint of frost or ice and I note from your post that no other game was cancelled in Tweeddale and there was even a kiddies game on near bye!

I can understand the likes of Selkirk having problems with their pitch as is right down at the lowest point in Selkirk and at river level, whereas Vale is slap bang in the middle of town and well above river level!

The other point I was making is that it surely cant benefit either club to not be playing so if the likes of Vale and Selkirk are prone to call offs why not have some kind of arrangement with other clubs to change to away games and split the gate money even if it was only on a friendly basis if cups and leagues wouldnt allow it ?
