Best player and biggest disappointment so far?

Recommended Posts

Be interesting to see what everyone thinks in terms of who has been their best player this season for their team, and the biggest under-performer. Could think of a couple for us. Stevie Notman being the most notable performer for Berwick this season. Lavery also having a good season so far, into double figures in terms of goals!

However been disappointed with a couple of players, lee currie the most notable. Miles off the form he was at last year and has never really looked like finding it so far this season. Hope he starts coming on to his game for us very soon, as it would be very influential if we are to go on a run and challenge at the top where we should do.

Discuss.

Best player - Scott Ferguson. Although he's not been at the standards he has set himself last year, and looking increasingly frustrated at where he is being asked to play, he is still our best attacking outlet.

Biggest disappointment - Could easily be our best and most important player, but Stephen O'Donnell hasn't really done it often enough for me. Harsh probably given how long he was out for prior to signing for us. Besides him, you could pick from quite a few others sadly.

We've had a few standout performers over the season, Nicoll/Zubaidi/Linn/Murray/McManus have all been excellent. McBride has been good aswell as Hunter/Stewart.

But our best players been Mark Whatley, easily a 8/10 every game and he's been played all over midfield and RB and LB easily one of the best players in this league hopefully we go up so we can keep him cause he's better than this level.

Most disappointing, Crawford because he's got injured but he was great before that so I'd say Johnstone from East Fife, coming in as their captain I thought he would've played more of a part but he's not really got a chance. I don't think anyone's played that poorly for us though.

This is a hard one for me as we have had a few "best players" so far.. Marc McKenzie, Ross Dunlop, Kyle Turnbull, Alan Reid, Beast..... but i will pick one player.

Best Player

Mick Dunlop - He has been a rock at the back for us and guides his brother Ross through games. Solid in the air and never shirks a tackle. Mick is also very comfortable with the ball at his feet and doesnt always just look for the big hoof up the park. Hope he stays away from suspensions and injury as he would be one of the first names on my team sheet.

Biggest Disappointment

I dont think we have had any real disappointments in our team so far but for me i think Gary Phillips has been our poorest player. Maybe this is down to him taking more of a central role this season compared to last season where he was a left winger. He doesnt seem to be as fit as previous season and looks like he is blowing out his ar*e after 55-60mins. Would like to see him get into the box more and popping up with goals but i know this will only happen if he is allowed to roam around the park like previous seasons.

Lavery has to be our most notable performer in the games I've attended. Think he will get even better as the partnership with Dargo develops. Other good performers have been in and out of the team through injury too much. I expect a few to kick on now though if we can get a more settled team.

Lee Currie hasn't hit the heights of last season so he's been probably the most disappointing, but I don't think it will be long before his form returns. Too good a player for it not to. Maybe controversial, but I don't think Tulloch has been great compared to his usual high standardsz

Best player I'm not really sure on as I don't think anyone has been consistently good. Maybe Halkett is the exception to that but he's missed a few games. Same with McManus who could easily be a 15-20 goal striker if he hadn't been injured so much.

Worst player would be David Sinclair probably. Watt escapes that tag as his two tap-ins got us our only home league win this season but he's diabolical as well. Neither is really a disappointment though; that would be O'Donnell, however I think he'd be much better with two energetic players either side of him.

Deasley has put in a lot of effort in the games I've seen this season (about 10), along with Day, and I thought Graham looked solid to start with at LB.

Biggest disappointments... where to start? Ever-reliable McKenzie has still performed well but has also been very disappointing at times with countless brain-fart decisions which may now be coming to the fore courtesy of a very iffy defence. From what I've witnessed, Harkins hasn't lived up to pre-season hype, along with O'Neill.

Craig Bell. No more need be said on that.

In keeping with thread title, the biggest "disappointments" have to be Shield's tactics and post-match excuses, and the associated £12 to witness the spectacle.

Biggest disappointment would be McQueen, cant remember such a catastophic loss of form in a player from one season to another. I actually think that Scott Ferguson has been pretty poor this year.

Martin has been best performer by a mile, terrific signing, lets hope we can keep hold.

Really difficult to pick best player, could go for anyone of; Linn, Murray, McManus, McBride, Whatley and Hunter. All have their individual skills and capable of changing a game, great work ethic and team spirit.

Most disappointing; Micheal Travis..... not easy trying to break into a team thats doing well, should have giving it more time.

Best- Mark Whately may be the best player in the league, mention also for Ricky Little, after a difficult start for us

Disappointment- through no fault of his own Craig Johnstone

for QP

Best hard to say but between

Miller, most consistent; Berry, unassumingly good & Impressive; Wharton, solid; McGregor, organiser better with Wharton at his side; Muir, steady in goal; Rooney, marauder as someone said, best performer last 4 games; Gibson, more solid now at left back

Worst, easier because of others performances

Burns; too lack lustre, Gallacher; tad slow at present;

About seven Rovers players could stake a claim as our best player so far. I'll nominate our best new signing, Kyle Turnbull.

Fisher has been worse than expected, but I'm also disappointed by Ross McNeil's ego- so big that he walked away after a few months as a fringe player.

I have no admiration for players who would rather leave than work for a place in the team- all of them want to play, but only eleven can!

Future clubs can remember the extent of his loyalty when things aren't going his way.
