NSFC 1955-56

Look out for an article in the near future in the Galloway Gazette about goalkeeper Robert 'Bert' Morrison and the NSFC team in season 1955-56 who won the 3 major trophies that year - the only South of Scotland League team to achieve this in a single season

Both the South Supplementary Cup of the 1950s ,and the South Challenge Cup commenced in 2007, fulfilled the same purpose... namely, filling the void left by the Qualifying Cup being abolished when the Scottish Cup went "all-in".

However, there were some important differences.

South Supplementary Cup was only for SFA members - so the same entry as the Qualifying Cup had - and was an open draw. Apparently it used the actual Qualifying Cup trophy.

South Challenge Cup is for all EOS, SOS & Lowland league clubs - and after 2 seasons was zoned in the early rounds. Its trophy is a copy of the Qualifying Cup replicas.

EDIT: One further point of note - from its second season the South Supplementary Cup had some additional relevance beyond silverware, as its finalists got a bye into Scottish Cup R3.

EDIT AGAIN: PAFC is correct that to win the SOS League, Southern Counties Cup and South Qualifying Cup (or equivalents) was to win the big three. It's the non-league equivalent of winning the 'treble' of League, FA Cup and European Cup. They missed out on a 'quadruple' as Tarff won the League Cup.
