Homer Thompson
Anyone on here into their Linux distros? No. I tried Ubuntu many moons ago. It was ok, did the basic stuff. But, its no good for gaming or web development (if youre used to using visual studio and working with MS SQL) and it became a pain switching between that boot and a windows one I have a decent PC now with windows 7 and, to be honest, I dont really see much point in also running a linux boot. Definitely have their place, though. Its something newer and basic users should be encouraged to use
Jim McLean's Ghost
I use a Linux cluster a work. Pretty basic command line driven stuff. We use Ubuntu. I had it on my main machine for a while because it was easier to work with the cluster but day to day it isn't as good as Windows and Office under WINE is not an ideal way to use complex Excel and Word documents. I have tried a couple of light weight distros on old PCs but never really to use productively. Of course everyone uses Linux these days on Android phones.... oh you mean GNU/Linux (Neeeerrrrdddddsssss!)
Uncle Psychosis
I've used it a lot in the past. Gentoo was my distro of choice. If I was going back now I'd either use Gentoo again or possibly Mint.
BFTD
I'm just installing LXLE on an ancient netbook so I can spam P&B from the couch have something portable to work on; the latest version of Ubuntu was too heavyweight, the using the poor thing was like viewing a slideshow Never been a Linux user, so I'll be interested to see what it's like, considering the (as far as I've seen, unsupported) slating that Windows has always had from Linux users. Mordecai
I use Ubuntu at work (running molecular simulations) and have done some work with Redhat too. I generally find it very easy to use and it tends to run very quickly - but that could be down to the spec of the PC more than anything else. I'm going to be getting a new laptop soon and will definitely be setting up a partition for Ubuntu on it. No point in me spending money on MS Office when I can get the Linux equivalents for free. I've not tried any sort of gaming on it though...that's the only thing that's stopping me from getting rid of Windows altogether.
Todders
Only when I absolutely have to for work (Red Hat Enterprise). It's just too much of a pain in the sack for home use.
