Steven Fletcher is a class player and should start every game when fit. He's absolutely imperative to how we play.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is clueless tbh.

We played very successfully without Fletcher at the tail end of the last campaign. Naismith is more than capable of playing as the lone striker and we tend to have a lot more joy with high pressing and movement in attack when he's up there.

Scotland need bring striker with experience to help own team and more goals

Scotland got Steven Fletcher but Martin not good player tonight and last game Ireland

Am I the only one that read that as if Ivan Drago was saying it?

100% agree. Fletcher flatters to deceive as our number 9.

Not that I'd advocate dicking around with the system, but perhaps fletcher could be employed in the number 10 role for certain games - his touch and flick ons might be just the thing a Stevie may or the like could thrive off.

 I'm sorry, are you more 'Scottish' than me because you voted 'Yes'?

Please answer in one syllable as I don't want another thread being taken off topic by this (settled) argument.

Aye

Dee seems like a Scotland supporter. Don't get the emoticons?

I once went to a Spain v Germany game at which I supported Spain, It didn't make me Spanish though. Anyway, for the sake of the forum, I've put him on ignore.

Bull. I joined up for this part of the board originally. The shenanigans with Rangers was/is the biggest story in Scottish football and drew me in for a while but I'm hardly ever on there now. Of course, I wouldn't expect a smarmy twat to accept that and guess how much I care.

Does it not worry anyone that wgs has placed so much faith/fast-tracked Chris martin to his current status in the squad?

Surely he saw cm's shortcomings in all the training sessions?

Eta: not trying to rip the pish out of Chris martin, more that I'm worried that our manager doesn't really know what type of fwd player completes his otherwise effective system

I tend to think Strachan is good at getting the best out of the players he's got, but isn't actually the best judge of what players should be in the squad in the first place.

A bit like Clough/Taylor. Clough knew the tactics but it was Taylor who had an eye for a player.

Unfortunately, Strachan's number two is Mark McGhee. I have little idea what he actually brings to the set-up.

In response to the OP, as unpopular an opinion it is I still think Scotland's best striker is Leigh Griffiths, but he's barely playing for Celtic at the moment. On form though he's far better than the likes of Martin. A Griffiths-Naismith frontline for me would be the one.

By god the defence needs changed though. Hanley and Whittaker are not international players. I think Martin is overrated too. Berra is on form at club level, he should have had at least had 45 mins v England. Just a shame Reynolds' form has dipped so badly, he's struggled at Aberdeen this season. Hopefully by early next year he's back to his best and in the squad again.

I'm just hoping that we've not seen the best of Chris Martin. I've heard - admittedly I haven't watched - that he's playing pretty well for Derby, but he's looked desperately poor in both the Ireland and England games. Just looks far too slow and cumbersome, and throws himself down and greets when he gets touched. It seems like WGS has a bit of a thing for him, so I don't imagine he'll be dropped. Maybe a match against the likes of Gibraltar is what he needs, but can't help he'll be another Craig Mikail-Smith, getting the odd "important" goal.
