We Need To Talk About St. Johnstone vs. Ross County

Recommended Posts

Part 1!

The exciting debut album as opposed to the disappointing follow-up (see: Strokes, The). The film we all love rather than the inexplicable sequel that we wish we could erase from our memories (see: Caddyshack, and Caddyshack II). Or am I misguided in that assessment? Is this a mere sideshow that is distracting us from the magic of the cup?

The difference a 0-3 away win makes is incredible. A few weeks ago I looked at this fixture and thought "McDiarmid Park in late November? I'll be washing my hair that day". Now I'm actually tempted to go along to this.

County could, probably, do with a win in this one - 3 points sees them break double figures and go 3 points behind Saturday's opposition. The slightly less bad Saints will probably be looking at this in a similar manner: a win would be most welcome and, indeed, helpful from their perspective.

I expect McIntyre to go with the same team/squad that beat Kilmarnock. Brittain at right-back is a slight concern but he was steady enough at Rugby Park. Hopefully Jervis and Dingwall can build on their performances from that game.

I'm not having that. Granted it would have to be sensational to beat or even match the debut album 'Is This It?' but 'Room On Fire' is a quality follow-up.

Anyway, on with the football talk...

Speed 2 is a terrible movie.

O'Halloran up against Brittain could be fun. Brittain constantly within ear shot of Ghostie would also be fun.

I'll not be making this game or the cup game the following week however as I will be in Mexico.

Fingers crossed we can get a win or at the very least keep the unbeaten run going.

A lot of Saints fans are clearly still in a state of denial, talking about the cup match being the more important of the two. Letting County get to within three points of us would be a big concern as this, already, is the proverbial six-pointer. To give ourselves a nine point cushion would be significant and I'd take that over progress in the cup. Whether I'd have said that in the same position last season, I'm not sure.

After the post-MacLean dip, our last three results have been better and the second half performances in the last two matches have been more like it but we've still not put 90 minutes together for a while, probably since the win at Rugby Park in the League Cup, which even in itself wasn't exactly pretty. You can't keep relying on the manager changing things at half-time to get a reaction and we need to start the game better. Defence picks itself but outside of Chris Millar, the midfield aren't making a consistent case for selection and you can't have much confidence in getting a performance from them.

As widely derided as Jim Fenlon was, I thought he had an ok game against St Johnstone. O'Halloran never got the beating of him on the outside - Fenlon had a good amount of pace when he knew how to use it.

Brittain is a no-nonsense player by comparison when at right-back, but Chris Johnston had the beating of him a couple of times with quick feet.

You can't keep relying on the manager changing things at half-time to get a reaction and we need to start the game better.

County have opened the scoring in their last three away games and led at half-time in two of those. Profligate finishing against ICT and a ridiculous offside call against St Mirren account for the two draws, with the other being the recent 3-0 at Kilmarnock. We'll see if the trend continues.

I've seen all the matrix movies several times and I still have absolutely no idea what actually happens

If you look at the trilogy as a whole - Basically, a lad is offered a couple of pills and he takes one. It's really good for about an hour and a half, then it all goes a bit shit for the last 3 hours. A story for it's time.

Fair point. I was disappointed by it but maybe I'm being too harsh.

I'll put forward The Enemy as another example. I'll fight* anyone who says their second album was anything other than a massive disappointment that was mostly terrible.

*"fight" may or may not happen.

You had no reason to be disappointed as The Enemy are a uniformly dreadful outfit.
