Searched but couldn't find an Ikechi Anya thread. Anyway, just to say I was surprised to hear that he recently retired from football. Only recently turned 33.

He was probably the most exciting thing to happen during the early half of the Strachan era. Changed us from one-paced ponderous plodders by injecting a bit of lightning pace and positivity. Lovely wee guy too.

That goal Vs Germany [emoji7]

Good luck to him in his post-football adventures.

He was a revelation around that time, can't remember feeling as excited about a Scotland player as i did after that game away to Macedonia, thought he was going to be our top class talisman who would single handedly lead us to tournaments - despite being in his mid-late 20s and only being a bit part player for Watford.

That 2013-15 early Strachan era is weird to look back at now. Really felt like we were on the cusp of something at the time, but if you look back at it now we had a very average squad with very little to get excited about. We are by no means an elite side now but to think we have players playing for Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and then a few playing key roles for mid table PL sides, it feels very different to Strachan's team, although arguably the CB/RB positions were stronger then.

Think perhaps after the Levein era we maybe got a bit carried away and pinned our hopes on players who were in reality, fairly average. Clinging on to the hopes that Mark Wotte would revolutionise Scottish society and that Jack Harper would captain us to glory whilst being a mainstay in the Real Madrid side, alongside Islam Feruz who would no doubt be in contention for a golden boot at some point. It's all quite funny and strange to look back at now.

Having said that, the buzz after the Ireland game at Parkhead was up there with the best times i've had watching Scotland, really felt like it was our time and that it was about to click.
