Hibernian supporters to launch a takeover bid

Recommended Posts

There is a lot of ignorance about fan ownership/community ownership which frankly the mechanics of most fans do not understand.

However the community ownership route has to be more sustainable and more secure than any one owner model if people think logically about it.

The one owner route relies on his/her funding, individuals good health, their business being in good health, their motives being correct, them not getting bored.

The more inclusive model would allow constant funding (possibly not as large but more secure). Set up correctly it can ensure the correct people with the correct skills are running the clubs and if those who are running things don't do a good job they can be removed with little fuss. To say fans can't run clubs is completely untrue. The business type owners in Scotland have done such a spectacularly bad job fans could not do worse.

These initiatives are all about the way things are set up initially. Get that correct and demonstrate that to supporters then people will back them.

Good luck to Hibs fans on this. They certainly have the critical mass to do it. Imagine if the Rangers fans had got themselves organised what huge sums they could have raised. The quicker the Petries of this world are run out of football the better IMO. IMO Scottish football is like a gentlemen's club at the top level and they ain't going to go quickly or easily. It reeks of the stench of people like him, the slimeball at Kilmarnock and a few others.

Fan ownership and traditional ownership models can both be stable, or unstable. Question is whether this proposal has a chance of happening and would be stable thereafter.

Reading more today I'm still fairly sceptical this can even fly. They want 7,000 fans to pledge £20 a month (£240 a year). They want debt forgiveness from Lloyds "like Dunfermline got" as the bank "want out of football". They may want Farmer to agree to keep 26% so they don't have to buy it all from him.

When asked what he though buying the club, stadium and training centre would cost, Whelan said: "I'm sure it will be into millions". Erm, yes, obviously.

Time will tell. It'll also be interesting to see who the 'unnamed Hibbie-minded businessmen' are.

There is land for sale in Edinburgh at the moment. The average price for a plot bi enough for a modest single house is 80,000.

How many houses do you think you would get on Easter Road and teh Training Ground? 200 or 300? They could be flats etc.

The land has got to be worth £8m easy.

What sort of critical mass of fans would you need to raise that. Why would Farmer give up any of it for nothing?

I reckon it's got something to do with the debt write-off/restructure rather than someone buying the club.

You've got to think it'll be good news or why wouldn't they wait until after the derby.

To start the new year with our club being debt free heading into the derby with massive confidence around the club would be amazing.

Might be a good idea to hold some good news in reserve until after the derby game.

Seems like good news, can any of the Jambo financial experts tell me if this is indeed good news?

It is good news but as Hibs don't believe in not paying their debts they will have to turn it down.

On the share issue it's only good news if you have people willing to pay 2.5 million to own 51% of the club so not really as your main guys are a bunch of penniless methadone chasing scroungers.
