Whitletts Victoria have teamed up with Streamline Taxis to give every primary school child and some secondary school children in Ayr FREE entry to all home Whitletts Victoria league matches at Dam Park.

5000 child season tickets have been distributed to every primary school child and some secondary school children thoughout Ayr via the Active Schools programme with sponsors Streamline Taxis also offering a 10% discount on every taxi fare with them where the ticket holder shows their season ticket.

Chairman John Dalton said that he hoped that as well as encouraging youngsters to come along to watch Whitletts Victoria home matches at Dam Park, it would also encourage them to participate in sport to help them achieve their personal goals.

“There are lots of sporting opportunities locally and it has been well documented how active sports can encourage young people, not only in terms of their fitness but also their health and educational wellbeing” said John

“Thanks to the support from Streamline Taxis, by giving out these free season tickets to Ayr youngsters, we hope to encourage some young people along to Dam Park to see Whitletts Victoria play and raise awareness of the club locally to show young people that there are various levels of footballing opportunities available in the town. Many youngsters will harbour dreams of becoming a professional footballer. Hard work, drive and dedication will help them to achieve those ambitions but even then only a small percentage will go on and play in the professional game.”

“That does not mean that they have to give up the game however. Whitletts Victoria can offer players the ability to play in the junior game while the town also has a number of amateur clubs that will allow players the opportunity to play the game into adulthood.”

And the Vics Chairman said that the Club are also in the process of developing a longer term project to give youngsters the opportunity to play the game

“We are currently looking at a programme for the longer term development of Whitletts Victoria that will place the Club at the heart of the footballing community and give youngsters as much opportunity as possible to play the greatest game on earth.”

Great Idea Terry promoting the community club and making junior football like it should be.

Charging kids under 16 £2.50/£4 entry to watch junior football is a bit much I feel , cause more likely than not there only there because there minder has dragged them along. This way they can come with their friends and other adults can bring them along now too. Hopefully we'll get a bigger crowd at games when United are away from home as well.

After all we are Ayr's only Junior team. Mon the Vics!

I think most clubs let kids in free. Primary school age at least

We have let in under 16s for free since last season. The idea behind this was to give the kids an actual season ticket that they can take home and maybe show there parents, or ask to be taken along to a game. Most kids about Ayr would have no idea they could get in free without a scheme like this

Pretty much a mixed bag in the East, some clubs charge for kids others don,t, me thinks it depends on the club you are going to and the community, some more prosperous clubs can let kids in others need the funds.

This is a great idea. Most teams if not all let under 16s in for free but not everyone in the towns and villages is actually aware of this. To actively go out and promote it is a great idea and more clubs should be doing the same.

Young primary school kids shouldn't be paying to go in to see junior football and should be encouraged to attend as much as possible and if that means for free then every club should promote it as much as possible .

The only time I tend to try and charge everyone and not use discretion for young kids is cup games where the away team are due half the gate proceeds as that could maybe lead to confusion when the visiting treasure is quoted a crowd figure that maybe wouldn't relate to the numbers inside the ground if you let kids in for free.
