Apologies if this has been done before but was interested in opinions from people who support clubs who play at these levels. Obviously there's been plenty of debate on top junior v Lower SPFL in the past but since the Lowland league is still fairly new it's a worthy discussion. What are the main differences/similarities? Is the operation of running a junior club similar to running a Lowland league club? Will junior clubs have to fight off competition for players from Lowland sides? Is there any difference in quality between the top teams? In terms of progression, as the Lowland League is an SFA creation, would you prefer to see a promotion/relegation from SPFL scenario at junior level rather than the proposed set-up with the Lowland league? In what respect? They're both non league, 11 v 11 Is the operation of running a junior club similar to running a Lowland league club? There won't be a soul who's been involved in running both, so impossible to comment Will junior clubs have to fight off competition for players from Lowland sides? Unlikely, due to geography. Look at a map of the LL - there's virtually no Junior presence in its core areas. Is there any difference in quality between the top teams? Not enough data to go on to give anything other than a subjective answer. In terms of progression, as the Lowland League is an SFA creation, would you prefer to see a promotion/relegation from SPFL scenario at junior level rather than the proposed set-up with the Lowland league? There's virtually no aspiration in the Juniors to play in SPFL2 - it's not seen as attractive. The Scottish Cup's a different matter. Got a funny feeling it's for someone's college project however. You saw EK play once against a team from the bottom league Yet you think its logical to make the bold statement and say they would be in the top half of the premier. We played them in a friendly last year made loads of changes and drew three each with them . Never in a million years would they be in the top half of the super premier , be lucky to even get in it going by what i saw and what i have heard from a guy who has watched them fairly regular as well as juniors. They gave *a* Lok side (not the 1st XI) a bit of a doing recently. EK were very slick going by the highlights. Love when folk judge a team on their performance in a one off friendly game. Unfortunately we will never know the real answers except the occasional game between the grades in the Scottish cup and licensing will severely restrict that in years to come. Off the top of my head, a bottom three ( selkirk) team in LL got humped by the East super league champs ( Bo'ness) and current LL leaders (ed city) beat west super league champs ( talbot). What can be read into that? There's a thread elsewhere here regarding juniors v amateurs and the same conclusion has been drawn- friendly matches mean sweet f@@k all. None of it means anything and in some respects it identifies the difficulty of pointing to the Junior cup winners as"best in grade". My response was to a post saying that because the poster was impressed with EK winning v a CD Second division team, in his opinion they would finish top half West Premier. Well, my opinion on a recent game I saw when they struggled & couldn't beat an amateur team, was they would struggle in the West Premier. wingnut Posted November 6, 2014 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I watched Spartans for a few years when my son played for them before Lowland league existed and they were a good side who swept the board trophy wise one season,still managed to get horsed by Lithgae in the big Scottish back then, can't really compare them now as I've not seen much of them but IMO them and a few others would do well in top junior league and recent results with them and Edin City vouch for that,I've followed the juniors for a few year now and would say its more competitive and better atmosphere at games. valeman Posted November 9, 2014 Share Posted November 9, 2014 Would also point out the match Rossvale played last week against EK, they had players coming back from injury, players that had been on the bench for a few weeks, plus a seventeen year old keeper.
