A Daft Question

Recommended Posts

: the East Juniors are all from old mining and industrial centres, believe floodlights and fixturelists to be the work of the devil, and descend into ten-man brawls every other week / the East of Scotland Seniors are from Edinburgh suburbs and picturesque Border towns, play in glorified public parks, and have no fans.

There, that's the stereotypes out of the way :P8).

In all seriousness - the actual difference between individual clubs is not marked. Broadly-speaking, most of them are a mix semi-professional and amateur players, most of them have fairly basic enclosed venues (although it is true that a few EOS clubs still have open parks), and most of them are run by small bands of loyal committee-men. Their seperation has its origins in events and factors 100yrs ago.

Occasionally a club moves from the East Juniors to the EOS, e.g. Preston (1994), Ormiston (1999).

Today the main difference that could be cited as a justification for their seperate paths is possibly the pyramid system - the EOS has joined in the pyramid system, whereas the Juniors haven't (yet).

Cheers HJ. Was curious as there didn't seem to be much of a distinction through the location of the clubs. Is it easy enough to jump between the two leagues?

I see on that Non League Scotland website that the First Division is listed above the Premier. Does that mean Peebles Rovers are in place to get into the pyramid system and not Leith Athletic?

Apparently the champions of the EOS League and SOS League will meet in a playoff... and the winner of that playoff will be promoted and the bottom club in the Lowland League will be relegated. That is based on articles in the Borders and East Lothian local press, tweet from the Lowland League (IIRC), and a post on the SOS sub-forum of this site. But apparently they'd have to be licensed, which at the moment no club in EOS or SOS are... although some are aiming to get licensed.

In the East Lothian Courier a couple of weeks ago the Preston Athletic manager was saying that he wanted to avoid finishing bottom, but even if they did it might not mean relegation, as the clubs below may not be licensed. At the moment the EOS and SOS leagues are led by Leith Athletic and Lochar Thistle, and I imagine both would have considerable work to do. Neither were linked with applying to LL this year or last year.

Thanks again. Final question  I understand what the winners of the Highland and Lowland Leagues have to do to get into Scottish League 2, what about Leith Athletic if they win the East of Scotland?

LothianTHV won the eos premier last season and qualified for this seasons Scottish cup where they were defeated by east kilbride in the 1st round.

Not sure if and when this will change but a good incentive to win the eos premier all the same.

I had heard that some of the Lowland clubs are not actually licensed either so what happens there then if one of them finishes bottom?
