Hurlford v Stirling Albion

This Saturday the Albion face a tricky tie at Hurlford. Given the problems the Albion are having this season bottom of League 1 and with no manager appointed as yet it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Hurlford the current Junior Cup holders will no doubt fancy their chances and cause an upset against League opposition at Blair Park.

It's time the Albion players to show why they are playing at a higher level and give a professional performance at Hurlford to send the Albion into the next round. It's going to be tough but I believe the Albion should narrowly win.

One thing about this tie I am upset about is the price Hurlford are charging £12 for adults and £6 for concessions for this game. Well overpriced imo, should have been no more than £8 for this game at what is basically a public park with basic facilities.

Prediction Hurlford 1 Stirling Albion 2

I know what you're getting at but it's hardly a "public park" with "basic facilities" - they've done a great job of doing the place up and the food/drink is good IMO. Add to that there's always a good atmosphere.

I'm not over the moon about the price but £12 is hardly breaking the bank considering its the Scottish Cup.

Think it'll be a draw or a narrow Stirling win

You say they have done the place up, does Blair Park have any terracing or a covered area to shelter in should it start to rain ?

No doubt the atmosphere will be good but still think it is overpriced.

Admission's agreed between both clubs, with an SFA minimum, IIRC.

EDIT: Ground info: http://nonleaguescotland.org.uk/hurlford.htm

Believe their was discussion between the clubs as to the price,Albion asked as I understand for a lower price but Hurlford stuck to their original price of £12/ £6 for the game. Also say from the pictures, again looks a bit basic covered stand for 50 people not to great imo.

In my experience it's normally the higher placed team who want to charge more - something akin to their normal entry prices for league matches. I thought £12 and £7 for entry into a Junior ground was steep when the prices were set for our game but I can see the need for something in between what Raith charge (£17?) and we charge (£5). If Stirling Albion charge £13 for their league games then £12 isn't really a halfway house - it's right at the top end of the scale. But the clubs must have agreed it between themselves so if Albion objected then they didn't object too hard.

At the end of the day it's the home team who have the final say on what to charge despite input from the Albion for a lower price.

That's not what the rule book says so I suggest that Albion must have agreed the entry costs.

"35.

Minimum charge for Admission

Subject to a minimum adult non concessionary charge for admission to matches in the Preliminary Round (if applicable), Round One, Round Two and Round Three, of £5, and of £8 for matches in subsequent Rounds excluding the Semi-Final and Final Ties, the charges for admission shall be arranged by the competing clubs. If they are unable to agree, the charges which are normally made for the regular fixtures of the club at whose ground the match is to be played, will apply."

Different rules:

THE SCOTTISH PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP COMPETITION REGULATIONS

8. ADMISSION MONIES AND SHARE OF GATES

8.1. In all rounds of the Competition, excluding the Semi-Finals and Final Tie, the Board Minimum Recommended Prices of Ground Admission or the actual minimum admission price, whichever is the greater for adults, juveniles and senior citizens shall, after deducting 15% by the Home Club, be divided equally between the two Clubs participating in each tie. Prior to the commencement of the Competition in each Season, the Board shall fix the Minimum Recommended Prices of Ground Admission. The share of admission money in terms of this Regulation must be paid to the Visiting Club within ten days of the date of the relevant League Cup Match. Any Club failing to pay, detail or return as before provided, or any Club failing immediately to report non-payments of receipts due to it, shall be dealt with as the Board may think fit.

8.2. Any Club wishing to charge less than the Board Minimum Recommended Prices of Ground Admission must obtain the consent of its opponents prior to the match taking place and the agreed admission prices shall be divided as provided in Regulation 8.1.

1 Hurlford proposed £12 and £6

2 SAFC responded to suggest £10 and £5

3 Hurlford proceeded without further consultation and announced £12 and £6

4 SAFC decided, given the pricing had been made public by Hurlford, to leave matters as they were.

This explains the situation regarding the pricing for this game. Given the facilities at Hurlford, I think that the response from the Albion was fair for £10 and £5 in the circumstances. I for one will not be travelling to Hurlford for the game and from the response from other Albion supporters it would appear I am not alone.

Their is the other side to the argument, what about Hurlford`s own supporters opinions given that I would assume under normal circumstances they would be charging £5 for a normal game. £12 for this game is 140% increase for them as well are they happy to pay the extra £7 on this occasion?

Just feel that Hurlford have got the pricing of this match wrong, feel that the Albion`s suggestion of £10 and £5 should have been the price but at the end of the day it was Hurlford`s decision to charge £12 and £6 for this game. I feel that football is expensive enough and given the time when we should be encouraging people to come along to games we don`t need to make it more difficult for people to attend by overpricing what is hardly a big game between 2 footballing giants.
