Stenhousemuir -vs- Peterhead

Recommended Posts

The excitement for this one is palpable. I'd like to think that Stenhousemuir had turned that metaphorical corner after last weekend's comfortable win over Stirling Albion, but this should be a fair sterner test. Peterhead seem a far more streetwise proposition than the Binos - our midfield five had an average age of 19 on Satutday (certainly the youngest combination I can remember) and the Blue Toon's old boys might be able to get at them.

Home win though.

Post all thoughts on the game in this thread.

Putting a positive spin on things, I think I'm right in saying that in our last four games we have picked up 7 points. 2 wins - Morton and Stirling - 1 draw - Stranraer - and a defeat against runaway leaders Forfar, away from home. It isn't too shabby. But doubts remain.

We should have a bigger pool of players to choose from this week at least, we had 10 players unavailable last week. Still blowing hot & cold & Ochilveiw has not been a particularly happy ground for us. Hopefully we have one of our good days & get a win of some kind but as often is the case some of the teams that were struggling seem to be finding their feet Stenny are one of them.

As peternapper says, will depend on what players we can muster up for this. Although we are not scoring a lot at the minute we do have a good defensive record so far (if one removes the 3 we shipped against Dunfermline with 8 men). So I think a score draw is a possibility with this one, although we could really do with another win.

We've never won back to back league games since last August I would be amazed and delighted if that changed today.

It's fine beating utter shite like Lolbion but we shall find out today if there is any sign we can do that against an actual football team.

Dreadful end to today's game. Was a pretty decent match in parts with both teams trying to play some football.

The turning point in the match, for me, was Andy Rodgers coming on. He setup the equaliser and was a pest to our defence. Would have him back at Ochilview tomorrow!

Credit where credit is due though. After criticising Faulds previously I thought he done well today, as did Miller, Walsh and Oliver.

Aye, canna really disagree with any of that. I thought Stenhousemuir were worth a point. According to Ross McMillan on Twitter, Jamie Stevenson told him he tripped over his own feet and clattering into him, which makes it all the more disappointing.

Shouts out, as always, to Gary Oliver and Tom Walsh, I've been very impressed by the pair of them. Kieran Millar played well in the middle of the park and Kris Faulds's recent improvement continues apace. They knocked the ball around well and some of their play was lovely but we're lacking a genuine goal threat - other than Colin McMenamin's header and the Jamie Reid shot that clipped the crossbar, we didn't attack Graeme Smith all that much. Alan Lithgow played well at full-back too.

There were a couple of Peterhead players that impressed me - David Cox put a shift in on the right, Nicky Riley played well, and Andy Rodgers made an obvious difference when he came on - but they were there for the taking and to lose like that is disappointing. For a player that scored twice, Rory McAlister was garbage - he spent most of the time looking for fouls and arguing with the officials. He certainly looks a different player to the one I saw with Brechin three seasons ago.
