Drink Drive limit to change in Scotland

Heard on the news it's quite possible the new limit of 50mg per 100ml of blood (down from 80mg) will come in at approx the start of December.

This could catch a lot of people out at the start of the 'party' season the morning after, where they would be under the limit in England but over the limit in Scotland.

This is same as most, if not all Australian States & Territories but we have the added Zero tolerance if on L or P (probationary) plates or if driving a taxi, bus or truck.

Would like to see the scientific evidence that drivers with 79mg are less safe than those with 49mg. If it's there will have no probs with this.

Kenny the Cnut certainly knows about intoxication mind you.

I don't really care what the limit is as long as science and long-term statistics justify the figure chosen. What I don't think is sensible is having different limits within the same country.

What if a road closure forces a detour through Scotland for someone driving perfectly legally in England. It would be ludicrous if that person became a criminal temporarily through no fault of their own.

Unless Scottish regions are going for different limits then this will be the same in the whole country?

Then you will be over the limit it is pretty simple. Its not through no fault of your own. You have a choice not to drive over the border and over the limit.

It might be the same country but they are different legal jurisdictions.

Mind you if my experience of drink driving in the borders is anything go by the police wint enforce anything undwr 19 pints.

Good thread for outing people who think that driving with any amount of booze in your system is a good idea. also surprised at no mention of booze in food or naturally occurring alcohol, a favourite excuses of the hand wringers.

The hand wringers are the ones that lobbyed for a new limit.

I quite often go for 2 pints after work. This changes everything.

Either no drink at all, or get blootered. There is no middle ground anymore.

I vote for get blootered.

Well it is through no fault of your own. Your journey commenced in England and ended in England and your route did not take you through Scotland. A road is closed and you are diverted through Scotland. That is unfair and probably unworkable. If you were intending to drive thorugh Scotland to get home tough, but if forced through when you were operating legally otherwise is not fair.
