International Pre Season Friendlies

Recommended Posts

With the exception of the above-mentioned Top Hat Brigade how many SPFL2 clubs will have played a game outwith the British mainland? Clyde played in Lens in 1960 in the "Anglo-Franco-Scottish Cup", winning 4-0.

Did East Fife ever tour?

QP used to use abroad friendlies as part of their brown paper bag routine. Lets do it

Thoroughly recommend it. We had a couple of training weeks in Germany in recent years. Players came back fitter and raring to go....supporters came back in a pretty dreadful state. Sometimes you have to take one for the team, though.

How'd you manage that with part time players though? All have work etc to do plus in pre season we had about 10 signed players, we never had a decent sized squad till a few weeks into the actual season. If we were abroad we would of never been able to get people in on trial/for trial games etc.

We've also played in Canada (under Roberts), Zimbabwe and South Africa. Think they were separate tours. May be others that I've forgotten.

Really enjoyed the Norfolk tour a few years ago.

Guys just took holidays from work. Obviously not all of them could, but the vast majority were there. We had a squad with a really good team spirit that stayed together for two or three years and they seemed to be quite happy to play for nothing; it worked, and we had some terrific years.

Sigh!

yes, and what the players from that season get out of it............it's not even as if any of them went on to win professional contracts afterwards,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,apart from David Crawford, Alan Trouten, Mick Dunlop, Damiano Agostini, Stephen Canning, Stuart Kettlewell, David Weatherston, Mark Ferry, Paul Paton and Paul Cairney of course?

sigh

We also went to Cattolica, Italy, pre-season in 2004 when Brannigan was manager.

Pumped S.S Penarossa (the champions of San Marino I think) 7-1. Ally Graham hat-trick. They were pish.

Also lost 2-0 to Forli in the middle of nowhere

A few weeks later Brannigan was sacked for scrapping with Stevie Canning's old man during the game at Elgin.

Our bandits would probably be up for this shit. 4 days in Magaluf with no games of football sounds about right for them.

Actually, no. They were asked last year if they wanted to stay over in Aberdeen pre-Culter. They refused! #bandits.
