Regardless of quality, repute, age, etc... what film has shat you up the most?

Prompted by this in the Guardian....http://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2014/oct/20/threads-the-film-that-frightened-me-most-halloween

A bloody good choice I'd say, although i'm going to go for Phantasm 2

Typical of the Guardian that they pick the buckled lefties favourite - the BBC's Hiroshima or the Japanese Black Rain were far more terrifying. FFS, "Threads" nuked Sheffield, which was halfway to being Ground Zero anyway in the early 1980s (see Phil Oakey & Jarvis Cocker for details).

For terror, the original version of "Whisper & I'll Come To You" with Michael Horden can still teach plenty about how to create real fear with the simplest of sets and basic equipment.

I don't like horror movies much so haven't watched many. John Carpenter's "The Fog" was pretty scary for me. Funnily enough I watched The Exorcist when I was pished and wasn't too frightened.

When I was a student I only had a small black and white tv which I watched the first series of The X Files on. When I saw the X Files on a colour telly I found it wasn't quite as scary as watching it on black and white- I think having to use your imagination makes things more of a thrill.

The Witches as well.

Good shout, The Witches was pretty bloody creepy for me too as a kid.

I was absolutely petrified after I first saw Suspiria late one night as a teenager. The last fifteen minutes in particular had me dreading to turn the tv off once it ended. I also saw plenty of Hammer Horror films that frightened the hell out of me in my early teens when BBC 2 used to regularly show at least one on late on sunday nights.

More recently the only movie that's managed to actually really frighten me has been the first Insidious movie. God damn that creepy old woman with the candle.

When I was 9 I watched The Ring and it frightened the shit out of me. Was kept up for weeks afterwards

Also for some reason Insidious had me shiting my panties, in particular because of the harrowing creepiness of this song -

As a kid, the scene at the end of Superman 3 when the burd turns into scared the hell outta me. Also, the wee wifey in the red jacket at the end of Dont Look Know also freaked me out.

EDIT: BBC's Ghostwatch is another one that got me as a kid!

The ending creeped me out a bit. The rest didn't get me that way. Some movie though.

I watched it when I was about 10, and I didn't actually get the full gravitas of the ending at the time! As you can imagine that blood testing scene freaked the absolute f**k out of me at the time.
