Confidemus Posted October 20, 2014 Share Posted October 20, 2014 I remember before me and Mrs Fide invested in Sky +, we'd see the adverts for it on telly with various celebrities telling us what a revelation it is and how it'll change the way you watch TV. Balls, we said to each other. However, imagine our surprise when it turned out to be true. I can't remember the last time we watched a programme during it's alloted time, and it's been months, if not years since we've sat through an advert. So, does anyone actually make sure they're home for a programme coming on, or watch programmes as they're on? I've got it set to record incase I'm not in to watch it, but generally I try to make sure I watch it as it's scheduled. Most of the reason is down to being able to skip ads but also helps skip the boring recaps on BBC programs like The Apprentice and Bake Off. I guess the only downside would be that with stuff like the Apprentice if you didn't watch live then there is a great chance of finding out who got fired before you've watched the programme! As with other things, recently I've watched The Apprentice and the Great British Bake Off. Both are a lot more amusing whilst on twitter, which only works if you watch it live. For girls, I think reality tv such as Britain's Got The X Factor Dancing in the Jungle is "must watch live" telly so their mates don't tell them who won the next day. So it's basically a female version of watching football. That's why those shows are so popular with networks, everyone watches them live so their advertisers are happy, and they cost about 20p to make. I do wonder how the likes of ITV cope with providing decent television when they know most people will skip the adverts so bringing in no revenue. Oh, I've remembered. Similarly I'll watch Newsnight when it's on, but wouldn't go out of my way to watch it if I'd missed it. And Question Time falls into the 'GBBO/Apprentice' category of being better when on twitter. Also maybe Saturday night shitty TV if i'm in, although even then I am not really engaging with it. Not-Live - Everything else. The way my week works is that I am constantly catching up on TV from other nights so even when a program like the Apprentice is on I am usually catching up with something else so that has to wait. chomp my root Posted October 20, 2014 Share Posted October 20, 2014 During the day if I'm not watching something that I've SKY+'d or catch up/DVD then I'll watch live TV, channel hopping for whatever catches my eye, thats probably the only live TV I watch. Mrs Root has been SKY+ing all her soaps/reality pish since we got it basically to avoid the adverts. It must affect the revenue for the non-BBC channels, not that SKY will give 1/10th of a f**k, they make their wedge off us chumps anyway and put the price up whenever they feel like it.
