The Albert nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory today against Maryhill.

The Albert manager made 6 changes to the team from last week.

The first half with nothing to report for the first 20 mins as both teams done nothing to test either keeper. But as the half went on the Albert

began to take control of the game but without really testing the Maryhill keeper. With ten

minutes of the half to go young Keiran Fletcher hit the post from 20 yds but with 5 mins to go

in the half Alan Campbell was brought in the

box and awarded a penalty, James McGill stepped up and scored. The half timewhistle went just after that.

The second half started as the first ended with the Albert on the attack and just 5 mins into the half the Albert were awarded avfree kick just inside their half and from the ball into the box Jack Baptie vollied in from 8 yds to put the Albert 2 up .

Things got even better for the Albert when the Maryhill centre half was sent off for dissent .

Instead of helping the Albert like last week the Albert fell out the game allowing Maryhill to take control of the game and there first chance came when poor marking in the Albert defence allowed a shot which the Albert goalie did well to to save. The Maryhill goal was coming and it did after the Albert gave the ball away outside their box and Maryhill took full advantage and scored from an angled shot.

Maryhill continued to dominate the game and only a last minute header fromJordan Paterson saved s certain goal. Then with 10 mins to go the Albert scored against the run of play when a shot from the edge of the was parried and Scott McLachlan followed up to score. This seemed to knock the heart out of the Maryhill team and the Albert could have added to there score as the final whistle went the Albert players were releved to hear the whistle.

Maryhill will be disappointed to lose but overall the Albert shaded it .

A fair assessment of the game, wee Albert. Here's the Maryhill match report. All the best to Albert for the rest of the season!

ROYAL ALBERT 3 MARYHILL 1

Royal Albert seem to have been a ‘bogey’ team for Maryhill for quite some time now, and the trend continued yesterday, with the Stonehouse based Division 2 side knocking Maryhill out of the West of Scotland Cup.

With only 11 players available, Maryhill recalled Ryan Scobie , and had coaches James McLernon and Michael Tolland on the bench. 18 year old Georgian Georgi Baiashvilli also made his debut in midfield, and looked a promising prospect. There was little action in a dull first half, with a thundering long range shot from the home side’s Kieran Fleming striking the post, and two penalty claims being the sole highpoints. The first came when Albert’s Kieran Chalmers appeared to impede William Wells inside the penalty area, but ref Ross Hardie saw nothing amiss, and the second came a minute from the break when Hill’s Andy Banks fouled Allan Campbell, and this time a penalty award seemed like the right decision. James McGill, who has scored a fair number of goals against Maryhill, made no mistake from the spot to give Royal Albert a half time lead.

Half Time – Royal Albert 1 Maryhill 0

The second half was only four minutes old when the home side increased their lead. A long ball found Jack Baptie unmarked in the Hill box, and he blasted the ball past Grant Hay to make it 2-0. Maryhill hit back, and a shot from Kieran Furay was a bit hasty, and flew over the bar. They were still struggling to make any impression on the game at this stage, and things got worse when, following a fairly harmless looking tackle, Andy Banks was sent off for comments made to the ref, who had awarded a free kick for the challenge. Oddly, Maryhill began to take control from this stage and put the Albert defence under pressure for long spells. Andy Monaghan had two good efforts blocked in quick succession, then Ryan Scobie’s shot came close. Midway through the half the pressure paid off with a deserved goal when Scobie shot home after a fine pass from Craig Ferguson had found him in a good position 12 yards from goal. Maryhill looked likely to find an equaliser, but shots from William Wells and Georgi Baiashvilli (twice), all just missed the target. In the last minute, however, Albert sealed victory with a third goal. Scott McLachlan’s shot from the edge of the penalty area looked innocuous, but Grant Hay in the Hill goal misjudged it, and it ended up in the net. Albert almost added a fourth goal in injury time, but sub David Dickson failed to connect with a cross from the left when presented with an empty goal.

In the end, Albert deserved their win. Despite a long period of dominance in the second half, very few Maryhill players were at their best, and they were frankly not good enough to take anything from the game.
