Coaching Forum

This sub-forum is pretty dead usually so I thought I would start a thread where other coaches could come in if they need help or just post ideas, session plans, questions anything. Keeps everything together and plenty of opportunities for coaches to help each other out and discuss anything within here

There was a fantastic thread called 'coaching styles & ideas' which had 8/9 pages I think a while back. Would be good to hear / share ideas from others for sure!

Just been through my C license for youth/adult. Was a great course as I didn't think of much of levels 1-3 but this was more intense. Learned a lot as a coach would recommend it to all - fingers crossed I've passed!

Well in what does that consist of? I've got one more day of my 1.3 childrens coaching in the game course. I think i'm doing not too bad so far considering I only turned 16 this year

It's £280ish I think...not 100% on that it was the sfa who put me through it.

The course is over 6 weeks, you have an intro day learning from your tutors, then given themes to go away & deliver as a practice/feedback.

You then get different themes & do an assessment weekend 3 weeks later. Need to put in quite a bit of work to really get everything right.

There's 3 parts to pass:

Shaping a team

Training session

Individual practice

Felt all 3 went well result should be any day now.

Been working in the community programme for 8 years, but recently appointed School of Football academy coach for our area.

Not bad. Got my last day of childrens 1.3 tomorrow then eventually will get to have a long lie.

Good luck hope it goes well, where abouts is that? You just getting started in coaching then?

The AstroTurf pitches at lornshill academy. I helped out at a local team last year for a bit but you can't get the qualifications till your 16. Done my 1.1 two weeks ago then my 1.2 and 1.3 this week, 4 days in a row is actually harder than I thought drains alot out of you

I've had level 1.3 on hold for about three years now! Kept meaning to do it but not got round to singing up

Did my level 1 and 2 (as it was called) three years ago now so should really get the next one done. Did my first with Alex Neil of Hamilton so he clearly stuck at it better than I did!

I'd recommend doing your 1.3 by far the best out the first 3 and great experience in delivering along with proper feedback from someone within the SFA. I found it to be a great experience and is aimed more at a tactical side of the game (mainly 1v1 2v1 etc)

The C license is level 1.4 that is correct. There is a physical prep course but it's not pass or fail I don't think.

The C license is split - either you can do children (up to 12) or youth/adult which is 13+. Two different courses I believe in terms of delivery/content etc

This is the first stage at which you are assessed. As noted, 1.3 you do some delivery & get feedback which is helpful.

A great idea for a topic. I have also just passed the C license (letter came in yesterday) I thoroughly enjoyed the course and likewise learned a huge amount! I struggled with the shaping if I'm honest but glad to get through it. Need to do a lot more learning before I make the step up to the Uefa B license. That's always been my dream since I started coaching and that's my next big target within the next 2 years. The price of it though is very large £1200 plus another £300-400 for the assessment the year after. Luckily enough I got the quality mark discount for the C license which is 50% off but there's no chance of a discount for the Uefa accredited courses.

That's the new pathway (although think it's 2 years old now so no longer "new")

and the link for all the details.

I was the same as a few posts above started doing the courses at 15 (luckily had some contacts within the SFA so got to start earlier than 16) and I've worked my way up both youth and the children's pathway. I love the coaching side of the game, love looking/learning at new drills and paying attention to the tactical side of the game which football manager has been very good for leaving too although the mrs doesn't quite share that view.

thanks lads, as far as i am aware i was ready to sit my UEFA B after level 4 but will need to re check that. I did a physical prep in feb i think it was? A few interesting things but thats about it. Anyone else sat one of these? IMO its just another money maker. Looking back I think thats why I may have sat it as it was one bellow uefa b.
