I understand, grudgingly, the need for a second chamber at Westminster, but surely it's time we got rid of this gigantic gravy train?

What's to stop a smaller upper house being created, comprising of a committe of "regular" people, thereby saving the country millions?

The Upper house should just be decided by PR and a party list.

That excludes people who are there based on their expertise in a particular field and not involved in party politics. People like Floella Benjamin.

She sits as a crossbencher I think. Maybe a libdem or maybe they put her forward. Cant remember.

We would have effectively been rid of it if over 50% had voted Yes.
