paul-r-cfc Posted October 2, 2014 Share Posted October 2, 2014 Anybody think he'll ever find himself as number one again? Another superb showing for Celtic tonight and Mcgregor now out for a month so could possibly miss the next four games if he's really unlucky. Personally I think the jersey is still Marshall's but if Gordon can keep up the good form particularly in Europe then it's his for the taking. Would love to see him back as number one Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

sjc Posted October 2, 2014 Share Posted October 2, 2014 Celtic had a foreign goalie at the time tbf That is a fair point but we are talking about one of Scotlands best ever keepers here. Although I do agree that Marshall deserves to keep the shirt atm. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
paddymcp Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 He's only been playing for Celtic for barely two and a half month. Talented keeper he is but let's give the guy to at least January. The fear is always that breakdown. Let's hope not Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 Plays for Celtic = Starts for Scotland It's how it works. I genuinely heard people complaining that he's only back in the fold because he's playing for Celtic. How ridiculous that he never got a game for Scotland when injured for about two years. atfccfc Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 I was unsure when he signed for us this season. One of the reasons was to do with his fitness issues but I really hope he can stay fit. The other was Is he as good as Fraser Forster. I think he has been very good this season. with a couple of outstanding performances. Salzburg and Last night were outstanding performances. He has also had to he good as our defence seem to want to attack more than they want to defend. Apparently Deila said he gives the defence confidence, So much so that they consistantly just go missing and let him do it all himself (example, last night when 3 of them went to mark one Zagreb player and left him with a one on one) Scotland have 3 very good goalkeepers. Not sure who is best placed to start. But its a nice postion for Gordon Strachan to be in. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Andyboy Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 I think Craig Gordon is the best goalkeeper we have but it would be very harsh at this stage to drop David Marshall, who has been in superb form for Scotland (and Cardiff) when called upon. I fancy Marshall will start the games next week but wouldn't be at all surprised if by the time Ireland and England come along Gordon is between the sticks. Dryhorce Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 Gordon is the best keeper that we have even Buffon said he was world class Good at coming for crosses and making great saves has top handling to Maybe McGregor is a better one on one shot stopper though and penalty stopper Still think Gordon is our main man though some of the saves he makes are sick Like the one against Bolton that won the best save in EPL for the last twenty years from the header at the corner Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
RobbieD Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 We should be picking our best players for each game so if Gordon is the best keeper, he should play. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
HuttonDressedAsLahm Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 Gordon would surely be on 60+ caps had he not suffered his horrendous injuries. Fletcher would probably be on course to be our record caps holder as well had he not been out of duty for 3 years. He is undoubtedly the best goalkeeper we've seen in decades, unfortunately dealt a bad hand when it's come to injuries. I expect Marshall to start on Saturday but it's a fantastic 'dilemma' for WGS to have. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
PrestersKTID Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 He's certainly talented still. Marshall for me deserves the gloves atm. Been consistently good for past 2/3 seasons. Gordon has been playing well since coming back. If he's still fit come the new year then i'd stick him back in. A player of his quality should at least get to 50 caps. Without injury as said earlier he would have near 70 at least. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

the snudge Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 Play any of our keepers and I'm confident. Gordon was outstanding last night. I always remember that game at hampden against France and his performance was super human. Marshall also is playing at the peak of his career and it might be his time to have the number one jersey. I'd go with marshall but wouldnt be disappointed playing gordon Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ok.Arfield had a tremendous season yes, but Strachan is perhaps looking at the players who may possibly become regulars in future rather than just choosing squad fillers. I would have no bother Arfield being selected ahead of mcgregor but perhaps Strachan is looking at a different way of selecting his squads. Arfield is 25 he has the potential to come in and play stood out against some big teams this year and even managed to score against some Also he can play both wings and in the centre giving more options of the bench if he was on it McGregor done well sure enough but it was only in the English league one hardly the top level although some of its SPL standard McGregor was in form on his last call up so personally never had much of a problem with it as he looks like he is a midfield goal threat that we need Since guys like Bryson cant do it what he does for Derby at club level the few times he has had the nod to play Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
~~~ Posted October 3, 2014 Share Posted October 3, 2014 Gordon has been outstanding for us this season. I'd dare say he is a better keeper than Forster and the best scottish keeper we have saying that, I don't believe we should drop Marshall, simply because he hasn't done anything wrong to deserve to be dropped.
