Partick Thistle vs Motherwell - 04/10/14

Recommended Posts

The one neither side wanted to create a thread for.

I don't expect anything from this one and don't think Archie will change much as the only other options we have aren't very good either. I'd probably go for

Gallacher

O'Donnell Balatoni Seaborne McMillan

Osman Bannigan

Lawless Doolan Higginbotham

Eccleston

I thought Doolan worked well behind the striker last season against Hibs when we got one of our only home wins then after losing 3 on the trot against Inverness, Celtic and Hearts it was scrapped but he'd certainly be far more mobile than Stevenson and I don't really see what others seem to in Craigen other than he tries quite hard.

Archie will probably continue to play Carroll and Stevenson, Sutton will bully our defence and Carroll will be caught out by any ball in behind him.

2-0 Motherwell.

I haven't been to Firhill in years and my lad wants to go for an away game on his birthday so we are popping along. I have no idea what to expect, so I'm gonna turn up, have a pie, cheer on the team and hope for the best.

That's about all I can contribute to this thread really, and aye - I am taking my lad to Maryhill on his birthday.

The only time I've been to firhill we won 5-1 so this is gonna be a let down for me as there's no chance of a repeat of that

No fucking about this week get the strongest 11 on the park and get back to 44fucking2 please.

Dan

Ramsden o'brien McManus Hammell

Ainsworth Lasley carswell vigurs

Sutton Henrik

I've not seen a goal at a game since the st Mirren game on the 9th of August so that would be nice would guess 2-1 Motherwell

How old is he turning? If of drinking age then a mini crawl along Great Western Road is a decent way to spend a birthday.

There's a big ol deflated atmosphere around Thistle just now and I expect a low turn out on Saturday. A draw will be ok with me really but I imagine Archie will persist with meh tactics and line up leading to another loss. Desperately want Fox out that team.

Heading along to this more In hope than expectation as I didn't go to Firhill last year and the fact I missed us tearing them apart made it worse this will be the first time I've ever went to Firhill so looking forward to it in that aspect. Going for an ambitious 2-1 well although I would settle for a 1-1

My worry is if Higginbotham is out for any length of time we have nothing going forward to add to our nothing in defence which isn't a tremendous combination. I'd probably still persist with Stevenson as we've invested so balls deep that it really has to start working or else we're fucked anyway. I'd also play Eccleston ahead of Doolan, Gallacher ahead of Fox, and someone out the crowd ahead of Carroll.

If I were McCall I'd be getting Sutton to position himself on Balatoni's side of the defence and just launch it to him for 90 minutes with 2 nippy guys running off him. Should guarantee about 3 goals.

Motherwell at home is probably the best match we could've asked for after losing terribly at Kilmarnock, to be honest.

Gallacher

O'Donnell - Balatoni - Seaborne - McMillan

Elliott - Osman - Bannigan - Lawless

Doolan - Eccleston

That's if Higginbotham's out, which I expect.

Had a cracking day out at our trip to Firhill last season - great support and performance just at the time we turned last season around - but even given the unpredictable nature of our league, I just can't see where a result is coming from. It's still September and lots to play for but given what a limp team we look this year, I feel that we're already looking for a bit of luck to get a result rather than thinking that we're a better team and that's a bit worrying.

In my post match rant after the Accies game, I said I hoped that match would represent a major turning point - but if we don't see a strong reaction in this game, there are serious questions to be asked of all at the club.

Looking forward to a good day out - the game, not so much.

f**k knows where a goal is coming from. Not confident for this one at all.

At least this week we can have a giggle when Steelmen Online waxes lyrical about the abilities of Stevie Lawless & Kallum Higginbotham (think they made about 10 appearences for Motherwell between them), and how we've never been the same since they left/we could do with them right now/they're bound to score against us blah blah blah.

2-0 Partick Thistle. Higginbotham & Lawless the scorers...

Ross Forbes could do a job.

If Higgy is out this is Elliot's chance to prove himself, if Higgy is fit, Elliot at left back? Can't be worse than Carroll.

As bizarre as it sounds I wouldn't be too unhappy at seeing Elliott playing at LB. Would rather SOD came in and McMillan moved over to the left though.

You and me both. 10 hours, 10 very long hours of football.

Says a lot about the season that just to see a goal, one goal, would be a joy of joys.
