Montrose vs. East Fife

Or perhaps not!!!

Still, good display against a team on a good run, we outclassed and outplayed Montrose for the great majority of the game and really should have won this by more than just the four goals that redid win it by, onwards and upwards!!!

Kamikaze defending for the first three goals; just simply came down to awful attempts at clearing the ball. Think the first was a deflected goal after we took an age at trying to clear it. Second was down to yet more poor attempted clearances, but credit to the lad, a great strike. Crawford seemed to square up to Birnstingl, but the whole defence was a mess. Third just before half time wasn't much better from the Montrose back four. Second half we weathered the storm and had some decent chances but one strike on target tells the story. McIntosh deserved his red. It was a nothing ball, he was nowhere near getting on to the end of the pass, so he pushed the EF defender and then kicked him. Have to say ref got that decision spot on, despite some disbelieving shouts from beside me. The kick wasn't hard, but it connected, and even if he had missed, it was worthy of a red. Our discipline so far this season has been awful. By the fourth goal I had lost interest so can't remember if it was good or not.

Deasley was the only one IMO who deserved pass marks today, and that was simply for the running he put in throughout the 90.

A good solid performance from East Fife. I don't think their will be many Montrose fans who think their team deserved anything from todays game. Montrose had the best chance in the opening 20 minutes when their number 5 headed wide when unchallenged at a corner. East Fifes midfield gradually took control and Fraser Mullen was the inspiration at the heart of our improved fortunes. Our opening goal was a tad fortunate as Mullens shot took a wicked deflection and spun past the keepers grasp. East Fife now took control of the game and pulled Montrose all over the park with some good passing football. The 2nd didn't take long to come and after a good move Ross Brown fired into the top of the net. The 3rd came on the stroke of half time well finished by big john Mcshane. Fair play to Montrose, they didn't chuck the towel in and fought hard, and created a few decent chances. They had a couple of near things but some good goalkeeping kept them out. It was game over when Mcintosh had a moment of madness and lashed out right in front of the ref. Before this Montrose took of wood and put on 2 subs and they looked a much better team. East Fife were well in control after the red card and goal number 4 was just a matter of time. This was scored after great work by Ross Campbell laid it on a plate for Kevin Smith. A good solid team performance and best in the black and gold was Fraser Mullen and Kevin Smith. We now face a run of 4 home games in a row 2 league games and 2 cup games. Things appear to be coming together nicely and we have healthy competition for places . That's now 3 wins and a draw in last 4 games.

Thankfully the launch ball only lasted for the first 15 in both halfs, once East Fife settled and started passing there was only going to be one winner. Though Kevin Smith looked dangerous and he is looking more mobile dropping in and getting in into feet. Thought Liam Smith did very well again particularly first half, a young kid who always wants to get on the ball.Page dealt well with Montrose tactics of going long through the middle. Fraser Mullen looks like he's enjoying his centre mid role, broke it up well today and got the ball moving. Needless sending off but defo kicked out at Page. Lots more to come from the Fife I feel, going in the right direction and looking to play the passing game.
