Who here has joined a political party today?

Being really non political, I'm surprised at how moved I've been by this, and decided to join the SNP.

I'm not one for Twibbons and posting up Yes/No shit on social media, but f**k it. They are a good governement in Holyrood, they are probably hurting so much right now, and decided to back them. I doubt I'd cope being at a Greens conference with all those dreadlocks so opted for the mad Nats.

Woooooo.

Who else has joined a perty today?

I'm considering it. Not really any of the mainstream parties, but a friend of a friend of a friend has invited me to join his newly formed political party which is aiming to form a fully federal UK with "Devo Max" for all 4 constituent countries. That idea is right up my street.

Greens for me. It's a toughy, I totally hear what people are saying on the other thread about a singular front and the merits of SNP support. They're completely right in many ways.

My instinct just now is that my vision of how I'd like to see this country feels as painfully distant as can be right now. If there are a huge number of people today feeling energised into doing something - even if it's through anger, anxiety and rebellion - it may as well be done with full, ideological integrity. I don't feel like being pragmatic, perhaps sensible even, about something that is light years away. I admire the SNP but they have a different vision to me and I'm exhausted with the vote for x is a vote for y mentality, regardless of how fundamentally correct it is.

Rather like the Yes campaign.. posting about doing something on Facebook will be the order of the day.

Actually doing it will be entirely different and will be the usual small numbers.

There's nothing the younger generation like more than empty gestures which don't involve them actually having to do anything other than tap buttons on a phone.

Great constructive feedback there mate. With such determined and relentlessly hopeful people like yourself kicking about, anything is possible.

On ye go, son.

As a SNP member (awaiting confirmation) , we should all keep engaged and I've usually voted SNP for Westminister (Dundee East) and the Greens for Holyrood, but maybe I'll need to toe the party line soon.

We all have to keep going. I've never felt so empowered as I did yesteday and I don't even think I on a Scottish national team top or even been a 'proud Scot', but this referendum, we have to keep up the fight, us Yes voters and not let the negativity take over.

Never joined a party in my life, but sorely tempted to join the nats(can't believe i'm saying that) even if it's just chucking them some money every year for now.

Registered with VSA today though, fully accept the charge of all mouth and nae troosers on that front so gonna actually try to help some people less fortunate than myself.

I think it would be great if people en masse joined political parties or even better took part in local schemes, charity work etc.

Thing is.. the majority of people who do that will just do it.

The rest will post it on social media and switch on the XBox. Whilst actually finding Tuesday nights parent great for them and they don't want to miss that rerun of Twin Peaks so maybe next week.

Both my wife and I joining SNP. If the result had been Yes, she certainly and me probably would have supported The Greens.

I think it essential that we get as many SNP MPs in Westminster as possible. Let's ram them and bullet the Labour/Lib-dems and Tory from Hollyrood too. :thumsup2
