paul cougrr
This Thursday, if you are still undecided how to vote for your country's future and Scotland's rightful place amongst the world's elite, I hope this helps to reassure you. On March 1st 1979, after the Referendum, we were promised much by an un-elected UK Labour prime minister in Jim Callaghan who “con-vinced” us to vote no. After putting our trust in his UK Labour party we were ignored and appeased while they went back on their promises and continued their roughshod treatment of us and our trust in them. In September 1997 we were assured by voting for a devolved parliament we would get a fairer say on the main issues involving our affairs. Yet since then, when we tried to put our requests up for debate, Westminster vetoes them, or suggests we cannot contest the vast over-ruling will of the greater ‘UK’ voice, or shelves them for years until such times as now when they try again to dupe us with empty promises they cannot deliver on. Like everything in life we must try to make things work. This is no different. It’s up to us to make it work, not rely on England to get it right for us…and then hope that they do. We’ve tried this for 307 years and it’s not been a success, and neither are the vast majority of the Scottish people happy with ‘Messminsters’ drip fed treatment of our interests. Scotland's Scots have invented three quarters of the world’s greatest inventions and contributed to the science behind many others. It is a shocking indictment on a nation renowned the world over for their inherent bravery to be afraid of trying a different path, especially as what we have on offer by the ‘better together’ brigade is more of the same, does not assure us of change anytime soon, and are untrustworthy given their 300 year old track record. Scottish Oil? As sure as it is extracted in Scottish waters (as recognised by the European territorial and zonal agreement 2006) then make no mistake, it is our Scottish oil. Nonetheless, within 40 years irrespective whether this oil runs out or not, or is discovered in even far greater deposits, international regulations WILL strictly dictate that we and every other nation on earth will have to follow ecological guidelines and policies that will be rigorously enforced. By then oil will be an obsolete and dirty source of fuel with restricted permissions and limited use. Renewable energy sources are already fast replacing oil and gas with the objective of a cleaner and safer global environment for us, our children and their children. Scotland is at the forefront developing and researching greener and safer energy sources; meantime, until then we CAN continue to reap the huge financial benefits for our beautiful country and also help other nations with this surplus bounty if we wish. Gas, whisky, water, electricity and tourism are all major players that top up an already burgeoning Scottish economy for the foreseeable future, and the real reason Westminster wants to keep us and attempt their dirty tricks campaign in doing so. Scottish Currency? We ‘invented’ the Bank of England and sterling as we know it and it is our pound. William Patterson from Dumfries is regarded as the founder of the Bank of England and therefore reserves us the right to retain sterling or start a new legal tender by any other name. There are no fears whatsoever of our currency disrespected in a modern world of global trade irrespective of its title. Personally, I've often been in circles of friends and conversations all over the world where being Scottish almost commands a fondness and respect from other nationalities that can be a little overcooked, though very welcoming. The NHS? We have a service that is already the envy of the rest of the UK. We have waiting times for hospitals that are weeks shorter than the remainder of the UK. We have in Dundee a world leader in Oncology and other medicinal research. Scotland’s Universities produce arguably the most scientific, innovative and creative minds anywhere on earth, let alone the plethora of global students they attract every year. Cincinnati, USA, the world’s first renowned centre of excellence for patient safety in health care, were in awe of Scotland’s own cutting edge health and patient safety development especially when we are in our infancy regarding this paramount and essential field. The Army? Scotland does not need an army, we’ve already got an army of over five million who would come together as one unstoppable force against anyone stupid enough to invade or attack us and our friends however they try. Nonetheless, that would be the least of our problems as any threat from abroad would be met by a tide of Scots that would flood and inundate the halls of our government offices eager to play their part. Independence is not about going it alone, it’s about being part of a global family who are all waiting to be our relations and friends. If we are better together then Why are we not better now? Independence is not having Westminster making decisions for us. Are we content with our neighbours-however friendly they appear telling us what furniture to buy, how to decorate our homes, what to eat, how to spend our money then go back to their homes across the road? WE invite our neighbour into our home… not let them walk in, order us around and take over. Independence is the Scottish people making decisions for Scotland with England, the rest of the UK and the world as our friends and trading partners. The conservatives don’t exist in Scotland but they are what we’ll get for the next six years at least because a toothless and rudderless UK Labour party are no match for Cameron’s “Condem” con men. This Thursday, anything other than a YES vote is a vote for the conservatives, whoever their leader may be and THEIR continuing austerity measures WE Scots did not cause, deserve or bring about. BUT, BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR “X” IN THE BOX, ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION. If you were to ask David Cameron and his Westminster government, if we remove our request for Scotland to become an independent country, would he and them let us run the affairs of the UK from Edinburgh for the next 300 years, just as They have done for the last 300 years……and then wait on his reply. I don’t think you will wait too long for his answer!! This assures us without doubt, and him of no escape. What they want for themselves is NOT what they want for you or us. If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. This Thursday, we the people of Scotland have a unique and once only chance to REALLY make our country better. ON THURSDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER VOTE YES
Granny Danger
That's what we need, a guy who's never posted on here before to tell us who to vote for. In case you've not noticed we've managed to have a pretty lively and informative debate before your intervention.

pandarilla
Who is this poster and where has he come from? This kind of drivel would turn undecided to vote No rather than Yes. Fortunately the level of debate has far exceeded some of this nonsense.
