victor meldrew
Much to my suprise, my new laptop didn't come with Microsoft office installed and I was needing to use Microsoft Word for doing some reports. I was wondering if anyone knows someone to download it for free or will I just need to spend the cash and buy it???? Cheers :-)
Gaz
Use Google Docs or Libre Office, both free alternatives.

NorthernLights
Yep or open office http://www.openoffice.org/ I've been using OpenOffice since I ditched Office 97 back in 2004(ish). Found it does the job without the expense.
The_Kincardine
Yep or open office http://www.openoffice.org/ Aye good shout, chap. I still use Open Office for 'home' stuff. We had a "Good free software and how to avoid viruses and malware" bit of the forum a few years back. Understandably it has died a death.
Homer Thompson
Aye good shout, chap. I still use Open Office for 'home' stuff. We had a "Good free software and how to avoid viruses and malware" bit of the forum a few years back. Understandably it has died a death. It was out of date and there isnt anyone to take it on and update it. Which is a shame. There is, however, a thread about not asking on the forum for illegal downloads of software
Merkin
You can buy a copy of full Microsoft Office for £9 if your work is signed up to Microsoft's Home Use Programme. Might be worth a look http://www.microsofthup.com/hupuk/home.aspx?culture=en-GB&wmpcode

There is, however, a thread about not asking on the forum for illegal downloads of software I assume they post "do not download this illegal fully working virus free software from this link I've posted"
Jamie_M
Much to my suprise, my new laptop didn't come with Microsoft office installed and I was needing to use Microsoft Word for doing some reports. I was wondering if anyone knows someone to download it for free or will I just need to spend the cash and buy it???? Cheers :-) Why does this 'come as a surprise' to people. Office doesn't come with PCs - bar a limited starter version, it hasn't for years (unless you buy a tablet or small device.) Use Google Docs or Libre Office, both free alternatives. Why not Office web apps? Anyone with a Microsoft account can use Word Excel and Powerpoint for free online (like how google docs works) on the Microsoft website.
