Scotland v Georgia

Perhaps time to let the Germany v Scotland Thread rest and concentrate our efforts on the next tie, it's only a month away!!!

How we going to play this one???

Personally I would go with the formation that finished the Germany game, namely 2 up front and Anya wide, the return of Robertson and Brown should definitely strengthen our approach (part of me knows that if Brown had been playing in Germany, no way would they have been playing "keep-ball" for three minutes at the start of the First Half, he would have nailed at least two of them and probably have been booked if not sent-off, but that aggression would perhaps have had a galvanising effect and we wouldn't have sat back as criminally as we did in the first period!!!

Also, just to throw the cat in amongst the pigeons, for this game, if we were playing two up front, I would drop Naismith, I know he has been a stand out recently for Club and Country but I really think Georgia are there for the taking and a front two of Fletcher and Rhodes would get my vote!!!

Anyway what do you think???

I think we will win these by a couple of goals. We are strong enough to score, but feel we need to focus on silly defensive mistakes like Mullers second. A clean sheet should do the confidence wonders

Would start with (if fit):

Marshall

Hutton Martin Hanley Robertson

Brown Fletcher

Snodgrass Maloney Anya

Naismith

I can't remember how long Snodgrass is out for and can't be arsed looking it up, but this is what i'd go with.

Snodgrass is out for a good few months yet unfortunately.

No quibbles with that team aside from that though, although I think Morrison will start. Move Naismith right and start Fletcher. Those two linked up well away to Germany and I believe they'll be able to do so again.

I'd love to see us start with that front pairing (if Rhodes ever makes it back into the squad). Then again, remember that same misplaced confidence in 2007 when we started McFadden and Miller up front in Tblisi?

Tough one. The sensible head says start with the same lineup that finished vs Germany. I can see Strachan trying Fletcher and Rhodes (maybe Naismith in behind) vs Gibraltar at home though....(that's just reminded me of Liechtenstein at home with Miller, McFadden and Boyd!)

1 Gordon

2 Hutton 4 Hanley 5 Martin 3 Robertson

6 Mulgrew 8 D Fletcher

11 Anya 7 Morrison 10 Naismith

9 S Fletcher

I like the fact that the back 4 is pretty much decided by folk on here and pundits alike. These 4 are not perfect, but sticking with them is only going to help them improve.

I'd go for:

Marshall

Hutton Hanley Martin Robertson

Brown Fletcher

Naismith Anya

Fletcher

Rhodes

Bit unbalanced perhaps but there's enough defensive cover in there to get away with playing 2 up front at home to Georgia IMO. Mulgrew, Morrison and Maloney can all be pretty dreadful for Scotland, wouldn't start any of them.

Mulgrew is suspended. I thought he was our weakest player against Germany anyway. Brown and Fletcher work well together in midfield too.

Would like to see this, but I think Martin is Strachan's favourite of the Rhodes/Griffiths/McCormack/Martin bunch.

I suppose form in the next few rounds of domestic games might change that.

I'd quite like to make as many changes as possible to a settled team which has been performing well. Stick Rhodes and McCormack together up front and get Tom Cairney and Kevin McDonald into midfield with Matt Phillips and Gary Mackay-Steven on the wings. Liam Palmer deserves a shot at right-back and we could pair Murray Wallace and Liam Cooper in the centre of defence. Paul Dixon deserves another go at left-back, and maybe stick Matt Gilks in goals.

Slight overreaction?
