Home Nations Agreement

The gentleman's agreement between Scotland, England, NI and Wales will no longer apply to Scotland in the event of an independent Scotland from 2016 (assuming this is also the date you can get a Scottish passport)

Raises a couple of questions:

1. Any uncapped player will be eligible for Scotland provided they have lived here for 5 years and are successful in applying for a Scottish passport. Are there any players good enough out there that likely fall into this category by 2016? Do you agree with it?

2. I would assume for a certain period of time FIFA will allow us to call up anyone with a Scottish or British passport? I assume at some point this will change however.

Why not???

Other Countries have used this rule to their advantage for years, when applicable, you aren't breaking or circumventing any rules merely using them correctly!!!

My only thoughts on it are that any uncapped foreign players who have played/lived in Scotland for five years will not be any better than any current Scottish-born Scottish Premiership Players, otherwise A - they would be capped by their Home Nation already and B - They aren't really that good in the first place!!!

Celtic need to chain Van Dijk to a wall for another couple of years. He would be a cracking addition to the Scotland team.

I doubt he'd be interested in the slightest, considering hes already been making Holland squads

Tom Hateley would qualify. Strachan tried to cap him before but was a few months short of the 5 year schooling rule. Plays in Poland now, not sure how he is getting on.

Sone Aluko and Glenn Loovens also just miss out with 4 years each as both have only played friendlies for their countries I believe

England broke that agreement for a player called Jamie McMaster, who was born in Oz & had Scottish parents but they capped him as he had a British passport.

Though like alot of young players he never made the impact that was expected

He was a champman 2000/2001 legend, was he not?

That was in 2002 when it was a gentlemen's agreement, the agreement was ratified by FIFA in 2009.

Maik Taylor is the most famous example of a player slipping through.
