Airlines - Glasgow to Seattle

I'm planning on flying out to Seattle at the end of September to see some people I know.

I've been looking at flights, and the two main airlines are;

KLM and Delta - Flying Glasgow to Schiphol, then Schiphol to Seattle

or

BA - Glasgow to Heathrow, then Heathrow to Seattle

There's all of 30mins difference in journey and a £5 in price difference.

I've flown to Seattle with KLM before, and have some air miles with them, as well as my Petroleum Card, so I'm swayed towards them

But I thought I'd ask the masses who are generally the better carrier anyway?

KLM are decent enough although never flown Delta.

BA are OK, but the older 747s are rubbish. Flew back from them from Seattle a number of years ago. Was in the middle rows of seats and the seat was very uncomfortable for an overnight flight.

I did KLM and Delta to go Glasgow to Calgary. No complaints

Flew to Chicago last year with BA. They put on old, shitey 747's with space only a midget would find acceptable and seats made from boulders.

A pretty disgraceful experience.

Everytime I have flown with Delta I have had bags of space and decent comfort.

The service you get from BA for what you pay is absolutely pish compared to Delta.

There's a chance the Delta flight from Schipol to Seattle will be a KLM one anyway. A lot of the companies offer a flight and then it says "operated by" another airline beside it. When I came back from LA a few years ago the BA flight had four or five different flight codes as it was also classed as a few other airlines, such as Air Italia.

Didn't have any problems with BA. Using KLM in October but that won't be much use!

Had good and bad experiences with BA, flown economy to Orlando via stansted and that was horrific, however did Washington via heathrow and it was quite pleasant, got upgraded to premium which was nice, very comfortable flight, return was economy with lounge access which was again very nice, had exit row seats so plenty of room, the economy seats can be cramped. Never fancied going to Amsterdam though, seems like a lot of hassle.

So going to stanstead aiport is no problem but transferring through another airport is "lot of hassle" eh?

It's the same with Delta if you get some of their older planes. Seat back screens but the entertainment is not On demand, so you canna watch what you want when you want. Hate KLM since they decided to relocate me to the back of the plane just because I had the cheek to make a flight a connection when they had already told us that we would miss it. b*****ds.

well it's travelling a lot further out the way to go transatlantic so yes it is. My wife had a nightmare twice in Amsterdam with delays and lost luggage so wouldn't be keen to fly with them again.

Delays and lost luggage dont happen anywhere else?

Forgot to add you do know the route of transatlantic flights??

Avoid heathrow, can you get in the lounge with your petroleum card? I know you can at charles de gaulle but ive got a platinum card with them so have never used mine

You'll be flying into and out of T5 at Heathrow which is a good terminal by any standards. The bit about lounge access could be worth checking. Free bevvy? I'd go for that.

Looks like I'll be sticking with KLM and Delta.

That's who I went over with at the start of August, and they were decent enough, plus I'll pick up some more air miles.

I get access to the lounges with my card, but the layover in Schiphol isn't long enough to properly use, with it being pretty much straight to gate. It pretty just gets me queue jump, which is handy with the amount of mongos that are in generally on these sorts of flights.

Flew this route continuing onto San Jose over the summer. KLM were excellent between Glasgow and Amsterdam.

Delta were excellent service wise but the seat comfort in economy is shite, like sitting on two bricks. Take the upgrade to Economy comfort, well worth the £75.
