rodallegabombs
Looking for a bit of help selecting a tablet for my sons birthday. He'll be 9 and is savvy enough that I'll be steering away from the vtech stuff. I'm looking to budget around £100 - cheaper if possible. The main points I really am looking for is durability, user friendly and fairly easy for me to sort when he inevitably does something that renders it inoperable. Also any recommendations for decent parental control software / apps would be most welcome. Muchos gracias.

54_and_counting
asda are doing the 7 inch samsung galaxy s3 tab for 109 quid the now, quite a reliable tab and easy to "fix" if the wee man does something stupid, although it would need to be something absolutely stonking for it to need serious fixing

Homer Thompson
You can get the original Nexus7 for a little over £100. Fantastic piece of kit

I've had mine since launch a couple of years ago, and have seen no reason to "upgrade", as it does everything I want - games, email, gambling, wee bit web browsing.... And P&B, natch! YER SISTERS YER MAW
There's £30 off the Amazon Kindle Fire HD just now, selling for £89. The reviews look pretty good but I don't have any experience with them personally. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/ref=pe_414431_53289471_pe_hero/?ASIN=B00CTVTJ4Q

blueone
You can get the original Nexus7 for a little over £100. Fantastic piece of kit £80 at this place http://www.expansys.com/asus-google-nexus7-2012-wi-fi-16gb-252460/ It is the original Nexus and only 16gb but still a great deal compared to some the budget tablets around. Fantastic price. I was thinking of the 32Gb version, which is what I have. The only downside to the Nexus 7 is that theres no expandable memory, but 16Gb should be more than enough for the OP. rodallegabombs
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated! I've gone for the nexus and a 'robust' case to try and give it a bit of extra protection. Am sure the young lad will enjoy it!

Am sure the young lad will enjoy it! Good choice. I would also recommend liquid glass .Easier to apply than a screen protector, provides better protection and doesnt "dull" the screen. Particularly good for the kids devices
saint dave
Nexus tablets are brilliant. Usually the first devices to get any new Android update too. Wife still has the 2012 one and its still running great.

Swarley
Bump! Any further recommendations or updates on how these models are performing. The Wife wants an e-reader for Christmas but I think she might be better trying to get a decent tablet instead.
