Who do you think Mcginley will choose for his 3 wild cards,

I have it between the following

Ian Poulter

Joost Luiten

Stephen Gallagher

Lee Westwood

Luke Donald

Miguel Angel Jimenez

Francesco Molinari.

I think he will pick Poulter, Westwood and either Jimenez/Gallagher.

Going on current form i would pick

Poulter ( based on Ryder cup record)

Jimenez ( Would be great for team morale)

Gallagher( Scotsman in the team would help)

Think Gallagher should be picked regardless of his nationality. He's got a great record at Gleneagles and is in form.

Hopefully he qualifies automatically and the picks are McDowell, Poulter and Donald. Although none of the three big Englishmen are in great form, there is an argument for picking all 3. I fear this is the way he may go if the standings remain the same.

Poulter, Westwood and Gallagher.

SG could of course still (i think) be an automatic pick if top 2 in the italian open this week.

McDowell who is currently 9th in standings isn`t playing this week due to birth of his daughter yesterday.

If McDowell drops out of automatic spot he will be a captain`s pick i would think.

Whatever happens this weekend Gallagher and McDowell shoudl be in the team.

I would imagine Poluter will get picked, so comes down to a toss of a coin bertween Donald and Westwood,

Gallagher can still qualify by right if he wins this weekend, and tbh if he has a good finish he should be picked because of his form.

Saw a debate on Twitter the other day and the consensus seems to be that McGinley won't have the bottle to leave Poulter out, even though his form is middling to awful.

That would be the Ian Poulter, who has never lost a Ryder cup match.

Is there another one? :o

As I said, the guy's a w****r and a Ryder Cup accident in waiting. I don't think McGinley will pick him. If he does, I expect it to backfire.

He'd be a clown not to pick him.

Matchplay, especially the Ryder Cup, is nothing like standard tour golf. His record, much like Monty's in the past, makes him an automatic choice. Monty had similar form issues, but always delivered. Poulter will do exactly the same.

These are his majors, he won't ever win one, but just look at how much that putt at Medina meant to him.

I believe your obvious dislike of Poulter, is seriously clouding your judgement.

Not the best start for Stephen Gallacher in Italian Open. Starting at 10th he was 2 under after 3 holes but ultimately shot level par. Given he needs a top 2 finish to secure automatic spot he will need to go some tomorrow and beyond.

Even if he doesn`t make automatic pick I think he should/will get a captain`s pick. Probably won`t send the best message if he misses ther cut tomorrow mind you.

I can't see Gallacher being picked unless he finishes top 2 and qualifies automatically, which is probably unlikely.

Assuming that is the case then the three wildcards will be Westwood, Poulter and Donald.

I`m not so sure. Poulter is a cert I would think. I think Gallacher will get a pick though still possible he won`t need one.

For me only one of Donald or Westwood will make it.
