Shit characters in good TV programmes

The title speaks for itself. I've been doing a bit of a rewatch of The Wire. There might be a bit of a dispute about exactly where it ranks, but most people who have seen it agree that it is one of the greatest, if not the greatest TV programme of all time. So, how in the name of f**k did the creator &/or writers think that Brother Mouzone was a good character? With Omar the writers quite often sacrificed a bit of realism for what they thought was badass and cool, but at least they actually managed to pull off badass and cool and make his whole schtick work. With Brother, it's like everyone is telling you this guy is badass and cool, when it's plain to see he is a totally ridiculous cartoon character. The fact that he was involved in the epic showdown between two much loved characters really sticks in my craw.

Another show I've been rewatching recently is Frasier - one of my favourite sitcoms of all time and I've just got SKY+ so I've been storing them up. Good God Daphne's family were all absolutely horrific, particularly her brother Simon. Anthony LaPaglia won an Emmy for playing an obnoxious version of Poochie with a dreadful English accent.

Any P&Bers ever been annoyed by a shit character in a good TV programme and wanna get it off their chest?

Ziggy is another shout from The Wire. Far too stupid a character for that show.

Lawrence Fishburne was a huge disappointment in CSI, Kim Bauer was terrible in the first couple of years of 24 also.

Almost forgot, Nikki and Paulo in Lost.

David Caruso in CSI. I'm not exactly a huge fan of the show but I have seen my fair share and holy f**k, what a shite actor.

Walt jnr in Breaking Bad. Annoying as f**k.

Skyler White also of Breaking Bad and her sister as well.

Cleveland Brown of Family Guy. I'm amazed he got his own show and gutted it got cancelled and now he's back again.

The head honcho Nazi guy (I can't even remember his name) in the final episodes of Breaking Bad.

To be fair they kind of fucked up by giving the last antagonist of the series virtually no build-up and introduced him far, far too late in the show, so it might have ended up better had they not flung him in in what felt like a very rushed way.

Kima (sp?) in The Wire is a weird one, because I think she starts out ok but ends up being pretty shit/not really contributing anything to the show other than filler later on. The whole thing about her cheating on her girlfriend felt really out of place and pointless, took up a good bit of screen time and iirc ended up having no real meaningful resolution.

Todd is divisive among some fans, but I like him - he's the anti-Jesse. They're both capable enough, they're dim-witted at times (Todd saying "Mr White???" in the last episode springs to mind, as well as having the vacant Matt Damon look that gave him the Meth Damon nickname) but unlike Jesse Todd has absolutely no feelings of guilt or remorse over having to do evil things in the drug trade.

Art Mullen from Justified is a miserable and annoying b*****d.

Wayne Unser from Sons of Anarchy. I swear he has cancer and had under a year to live but is still going seven seasons in....

In agreement with everyone else, Skyler White is a boot.

There are probably plenty of others as I've watched so many shows over the years. More will come to mind later.

Skyler

Zoe Barnes in House of Cards

Lisa Simpson

Lisa-centric episodes were actually great back in the day - Lisa's Substitute, Lisa's Rival, I Love Lisa and the Malibu Stacey episode were all classics. She became tedious as The Simpsons became shit.

I think Skyler gets a bit of a bum rap too, as a lot of female characters seem to. Maybe it's because she is always the one trying to stop the fun antihero from doing fun antihero stuff. I thought her actions generally made logical sense and she helped raise the stakes. Must admit, just to complete the set, I have nothing against Zoe Barnes either although the whole Hannibal Lecter/Clarice thing got a bit weird towards the end of season 1.

Also, in saying all that for the much maligned Skyler, Margaret Schroeder on Boardwalk Empire is an absolute chore. I never want to hear Kelly MacDonald trying to say 'De childrunn' in her fake Irish accent again.

It is without doubt the single most overrated show in recent years. Interesting first few seasons then very quickly became and stayed mediocre fare until the end. Usual bullshit American cash-cowing of a promising first season.

Regarding shiit characters, this guy immediately springs to mind for the ultimate irrelevance of the role...

Huh? Season 4 of The Wire is probably the best single series of TV ever. Overall, The Wire is so much more rewatchable than Breaking Bad, and it has far fewer weak episodes than The Sopranos.

Agreed of Walt Jr though - at first I liked him because he was disabled but his character wasn't all about being disabled, but he quickly became about being as annoying as f**k.

I really don't get the hype with the wire. The first series was brilliant, the second was shite. The next few were quite good.

Walt Jnr - Breaking Bad

Janice Soprano - The Sopranos

Ziggy - The wire

Ricks son - The walking dead

Margaret Thompson - Boardwalk Empire

Cersi Baratheon - Game of thrones

Sarah Tancredi - Prison Break

Cersi Baratheon - Game of thrones

One of the central few most important characters in the show in my view, being so closely related to so many other important characters throughout! Incredible performance by Headly in the Blackwater episode in particular.

Telling that we're all so dismissive of Walt Jnr though!

I'm maybe a bit harsh. She's certainly one of the most important characters, but something about her just does my tits in!

Walt Jnr is quite possibly the most annoying little c**t, ever to grace a television.

Manny in Modern Family is an irritating little shite. The rest are excellent characters but he does my head in at times.

Agree with the shout for Kelly McDonald's character in Boardwalk Empire. I'd also add in Gillian Darmody from BE as well. Fucking hate the pair of them.

It wouldn't be the same show without him, but i do agree to a point. He's basically turned into a sex pest! Jay actually refers to it in season 5 regarding Gloria sacking all the nannys because Manny's taken a liking to them.

As for the topic title, Carla in Scrubs. She started off a great character, who was funny and was the person they all talked to when they were struggling. As soon as she got with Turk though, they changed her into a nutcase who was only shown to moan at Turk and get offended about people insulting her culture. Ended up despising her.
