ARFC VS Queens Park

Recommended Posts

After Saturdays win over East Fife, I am expecting a tougher game against our amateur opponents.

I think we should start with the same 11 from Saturday, in my opinion that has been our strongest team from the games so far this season.

I see QP signed ex Rovers midfielder Darren Miller during preseason, he was someone who impressed me in the handful of games I saw him play for us, from what i understand he left us due to not getting enough game time so im sure he will be up for getting stuck into us to prove a point..

Will there be many QP fans making the short trip over to the San Siro? Does the guy with the tuba still go to games?? Not heard that horrible noise during our games in a long time....

Anyways, heres hoping for a good game of football but more importantly 3 points for The Rovers!!

Wish I was going to this instead of the Clyde game. I can only imagine how Gus will set his team out to play on the Cliftonhill pitch. I'm at half-mast just thinking about it.

Half mast is probably a bit of a result for you! Even at my advanced age, I'm still stiff as a board after seeing your mob lose 8 on national TV last week.

Nah....he's actually doing fairly well on the musical front, so is playing at gigs most weekends. And, it was a trombone; easy to confuse them.

Rest assured, though, that there will be plenty of wind from the QP fans on Saturday. Stay upwind of us.

"The Club will welcome some very special guests on Saturday at the Queen's Park match: Commonwealth Games Judo Gold Medalists Louise and Kimberley Renicks and their family will be guests of honour at the match.

The club is incredibly proud to welcome the Renicks family, who have really put the town on the map and are tremendous ambassadors for judo, sport in general and the town itself. They will become the first lifetime members of the Club. Spread the word and get the town to come and welcome them!"

From the Rovers message board.

I'm not sure what I think of this (Devlinesque) stunt. Have these girls ever been, and are ever likely to be again, inside Cliftonhill? So they're good at a sport which no-one understands and just happen to live in the Brig. Does the club really gain anything from this? There are plenty of folk I could nominate from the terrace and stand over whom the club would be better to fuss.

If someone from the crowd would volunteer to have their coupon well and truly battered by these two, then you might get a few extra through the gate. Interested?

Seriously though, lighten up FFS. The club are trying something to get a wee bit publicity.

Does ARFC not have a position in the wider community? It's an admirable act and without belittling the efforts of the fans the dedication and commitment required to achieve gold medals is a standard that's a good influence for young people of all sports. And, as a bonus, if it clicks the turnstiles a few more times then it's happy days all round.

I get what you are saying and you are probably right that they havent been at the club nor have ever been interested in the club but lets not put this down. Whats the club got to lose from it?

Its 2 local girls who have done fantastically well to get gold medals in their sport. We should congratulate the club on showing support to all sports within the community. Its wee things like this that could help bring more people through the gates. If their whole family come along and enjoy the day out then it could be another 10 people on the gate at every home game...for a small team like ours these things matter and every opportunity to hopefully bring good PR, more supporters etc etc to the club then it must be grabbed with both hands.

Re the judo initiative: I did say I wasn't sure about it., and I'm happy to be the lone sceptic. I understand the publicity thing, but doubt any lasting benefit from honouring people who've no connection to our club. I see on the Rovers board that someone suggests Rangers have already courted the sisters.

I agree with you it will probably not mount to anything but everything is worth a try.

Im not sure if The Rangers have had the sisters, I do know they had the runner Eilidh Child paraded to the fans last week so maybe this is where our board have taken the idea from.

We're overdue a win at Cliftonhill. Am I right in saying that Quinno's late goal bonanza in early 2011 was our last win there? I know we've not been in the same league a lot of the time, but it still feels like too long since we walked away from Cliftonhill with a result! I expect a tight encounter and am more hopeful than I was last season that we can pick something up from the game. I'm looking forward to it.

Yup, totally agree.

This is a way of Coatbridge honouring what these two women have achieved, and there's surely nothing wrong with that.

Probably over-simplifying things here, but dare i suggest that the outcome of Saturday's clash largely depends on how good a game big Gemmell has. Almost unstoppable at this level when he's in the mood, so were he to limp off after five minutes with a dead leg (don't worry - he'd be fit for the next game) I'd be somewhat relieved. Also a danger that Queen's may be sluggish after Tuesday night's exertions, so I'd be happy with a draw to keep the undefeated away record intact.

Could go either way. We may also be right up for it after putting in such a competitive performance against a full time team.

In my opinion the big man has been fantastic since his return, on Saturday he bossed the game and never gave the East Fife defenders a minutes peace. Hopefully he does the same on Saturday...

agreed, who wins the Quinn v Gemmell battle is likely to be crucial, and I think it's a much tougher physical challenge than Boyd provided on Tuesday, but thankfully Gemmell's not nearly as good a finisher so here's hoping he's not his shooting boots on the right way round on Saturday and saves all his goals for when you play Clyde
