Lowland Development League

I saw this game yesterday, not much between the two teams Leith created a few chances but struggled to hit the target at times. Whitehill usually carry a goal threat but failed to capitalise on second half chances. There has been big gaps between games recently so probably both teams a bit ring rusty.

Tables do have some oddities.

Selkirk don't seem to have played games since the start of December and if you exclude their Qualifying League results then the final table shows everyone having played everyone else (i.e. 6 matches each) and the League Cup Semi-Finals this weekend correspond to the positions that gives for 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd, i.e.:

Spartans v Leith

EK v Whitehill

Results section indicates that both legs of the Challenge Cup First Round are completed - again with the exception of Selkirk - leaving Challenge Cup Semi-Finals as:

EK v Edinburgh Uni

Spartans v Leith

No fixtures or results for the Knockout Cup R1. Mustn't have started yet.

If you remove the Selkirk results from the League table the current standings are:

Spartans P11 28pts

Whitehill P10 15pts

Leith P11 11pts

Heriot-W P8 10pts

East Kilb P6 9pts

Edin City P8 9pts

Edin Uni P8 9pts

On EOS website there seem to be a pair of U20 games which are shown in the table for Leith and Heriot-Watt, but not for Spartans. I have included them in the table above. They seem to have been logged under Spartans EOS team, not their U20s.

Spartans have a comfortable cushion but remember the clubs play each other 3 times for 18 games (again discounting Selkirk with them it'd be 21), so the league isn't about to finish, there are still a good number of games to go.

Looking back over previous seasons of the EOS U19s - the League Cup Final is usually played just before Easter, and the Challenge and Knockout cup finals at the end of the season, so presumably that practice is continuing under the new U20 guise.

Hopefully some new clubs can be recruited for next season as having only 8 clubs (or 7 if Selkirk are stopped for good) does lead to a considerable degree of repetitiveness. Spartans & Leith, for example, will play thrice in the League; once in the Qualifying League; once in the League Cup; once in the Knockout Cup; and twice in the Challenge Cup; for a total of 8 meetings.

More clubs would allow the League to play each other twice, and maybe have 2 Qualifying League sections instead of a single large section, and in turn you would only have a minimum of 2 or 3 meetings per clubs.

What's record of players coming through the youth teams in the last couple of seasons? Are there any first team regulars this season that have came through the youth in the last year or two?

I'm asking re: any of the LL teams

Also, how far away was the boy the boy hunter from the Spartans first teAm, before he left for the super js?

Spartans won the other SF by comfortably dispatching Leith 4-0 so the 1st & 2nd finishers in U20 Qualifying League indeed provide the finalists.

According to EOS website the Final is on Friday 27th March, 7:15pm kick-off at the University Stadium, East Peffermill... Unless there's been some minor university tournament held there earlier this season, I imagine that this will be the first cup final played at the impressive new venue?

Previous meetings this season:

* U20 Qualifying League - East Kilbride 2-2 Spartans

* U20 League - Spartans 7-1 East Kilbride

Hopefully a good match.

Our U20s were beaten 4-1 at Leith on Friday night. Not the best of performances at the back from WW.

On the plus side James Flynn has featured in our last 4 first team games (starting 2) and 4/5 others have also appeared as subs in the same time.

Took in this cracking game, played in a fantastic spirit by both sides, very touching 1 min silence observed by all in honour of the late Cameron Armstrong whom had links to both clubs.

WW were extremey stubborn in defence especially in the first half thawrting wave after wave of Spartans attacking football. The home side applied the sucker punch early in the second period and matched Spartans there on.

Led to believe that Spartans were missing a handful of first team regulars and had to draft in several youngsters, credit where due that they didn't resort to dipping into the Senior ranks.

Interested spectators included Grant Carnie and Micky Lawson albeit not standing together!! ;-)

Some good games coming up.

Edinburgh Uni v WW is definitely tomorrow night I took it off the EoS website as Tuesday. Should be on grass pitch next to main one but that could change.

Edinburgh Uni 3 WW 2

Thought our young side were going to give us something to cheer about tonight but surrendered a 2 goal lead. Weather was atrocious 2md half and game could and maybe should have been abandoned with the far touch line waterlogged.

I took this game in as well and agree with Rab, it was a joke at times, at 2-2 the ref had the ideal chance to call it a day.

Mind you this was the same ref that gave a goal then changed his mind when he was clearly not in a position to see what had happened, poor performance from the man in black (yellow).

Thank goodness for the railway tunnel, does that count as as a covered enclosure.
