Liverpool 2014/15 thread

Started with a 2-1 win v Southampton today but looked a bit ropey in the second half, was quite impressed with Wanyama for Southampton actually, where did they get that boy from?

Many have suggested they might follow Spurs after they sold their star man last summer and splashed the money on quantity rather than quality, then going on to have a bit of a meh season.

Like a few years ago I think europe may be their best root for success, fancy them to make at least 1/4 finals in Champions League but with a stronger Arsenal and Chelsea a sustained title challenge may be a big ask, not impossible mind you

Was down today and was far from a convincing start. Huge let off in the last few minutes.

Rodgers spent ages talking to Joe Allen before he went on and thought his introduction changed the game when it looked to be slipping away.

3 points though from a game they got 0 in last season. Man City away next.

I know Johnson isn't very good now, that's putting it politely, but the stick he is getting from some of the Liverpool fans at Anfield is a bit out of order.

I thought Southampton were excellent, Ward-Prowse and Clyne especially.

You could see that Suarez was missed in a game like that today, the Falcao rumour seems to be gathering pace. He would help I guess/

Lothair no more. That kind of took me by surprise.

Johno is public enemy number 1 at Anfield nowadays it seems. With Moreno coming in and Manquilla starting well he could be about to become a £110,000 a week sub. His experience could be needed in the next couple of games though.

Be interesting to see if a forward comes in over the next few weeks.

Big space behind the Main Stand now looks strange.

Manquillo needs to learn to stay on his feet going into tackles. Thought he could have been sent off today to be honest.

Maybe a wee bit over zealous. I thought in the Dortmund game and today he was impressive. Just 20 and only a handful of appearances with Athletico hopefully he can keep it going.

Not 100% convinced by Mignolet either great at shot stopping but a bomb scare at crosses and still doesn't look great with the ball at his feet which is strange as I would imagine it would be something that Rodgers would look to develop (Reina was terrific on the ball but let himself down to often during his last couple of LFC years .

Agree with this ... he often seems to take too long with the ball at his feet and nearly gives the crowd a heart attack. Sure Rodgers will look for better from him this season.

Mignolet is better than Marshall, while he's more agile than Forster, which is probably more important at a higher level than collecting crosses

I take it the new stadium proposal for Stanley Park is dead in the water then?

Remember reading that the problem with redeveloping Anfield was space being limited due to a lot of the old buildings around the place, I assume from those pictures of behind the current main stand a deal has been struck, when the work progresses will that stand be demolished and out of use for a season or are they planning on putting a tier on top of it and continuing to use it like with the Centenary Stand?

Yes after the spade never did make it into the ground in Stanley Park Anfield now be redeveloped. Planning permission is still to be granted but is expected to be all but a formality in the next couple of months.

The area behind the Main Stand is in the process of being cleared as the photos below show.

The Main Stand will have a new tier and roof built on top which will allow the capacity to remain the same throughout.

Great thread here to follow the progress ... http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=315184.80
