Girvan FC v Whitletts, Freak Result or Serious Times down by the sea?

I was at the Girvan v Whitletts game yesterday and usually games between these two sides are very competitive, however I was stunned by the 11 Nil score line.

I am too long in the tooth to read too much into this result but listening to some of the comments from the home fans that were just along from me were interesting to say the least.

The Girvan fans were having a debate amongst themselves about things that were going on with their team.

Of most concern was the fact that Billy Thomson was in the starting line up and after a few goals went in why wasn't he making changes as to be honest the game was over after the first half hour.

In fact 2 out of the 3 lads said they wouldn't be back which if I was a Girvan Fan would worry me very much.

Yesterdays match was as if Girvan had just started their first pre season game and they were not ready for a game, which I find baffling.

So at half time I went for a pie and a cuppa but their shop was shut further evidence that the club is struggling off as well as on the park.

Surely with the hard times clubs are having and being a near local derby it was a good chance to earn a few quid?

I enjoyed the result for my team but the atmosphere and comments around me indicates that this result will not be the last hammering that a usually well competitive Girvan team will receive.

I hope I am wrong but I believe Girvan are in serious trouble ON and OFF the park.

They pulled a goalie in off the street with 10 mins to go to ko. I dont think a proper keeper would have kept the score down much though. Im no sure if they were missing players aswell, but then so were we. We were ruthless in front in goal and scored some right cracking goals. Our 4 forwards got all 11 goals between them and could have had another half a dozen. We hit the post, had a couple disallowed and missed some sitters. Spoke to a couple of home fans down there and they weren't happy at the fact they had 3 boys on the bench who never even got on, but Thomson played the whole game

In answer to the shop being shut on Saturday the holiday period hits Committees as well as players. The girls that normally do our shop were on holiday and due to the fact that at Girvan we do not have a big Committee like some Clubs something has to be sacrificed and on Saturday it was the shop. Hope this clears up any doubts that people are having.

What a joke Billy THOMSON playing the full game. He should retire gracefully what an embarrassment to junior football????????????????????

Did he not retire about 15-20 years ago ha.

Does he play like Anderson of man u last night only moving ten yards in front of him and ten yards behind.
