Failed Statelet Premier League 2014/15

Recommended Posts

A new season starts today and to mark this exciting occasion i felt it only right that it deserves its very own thread , :P

god knows if there has ever been one on P&B but here goes,

main contenders will almost definetley be Linfield ,Crusaders and reigning champions Cliftonville although Portadown and my own team Glentoran chasing and will upset the apple cart from week to week,

The Glens face champions Cliftonville at their own ground today with a decent chance of taking points of them ,Cliftonville have sold their star player Liam Boyce to Ross County and are missing 3 key players , the Glens are pretty much at full stregnth with the young players keen to impress so a score draw on the cards their.

Meanwhile Linfiled have upset their biggest supporter( the IFA ) by not winning the league for a couple of seasons and aim to put that right starting by winning at home to Portadown , new manager at Windsor in Warren Feeney who got off to a great start by winning in Europe ,has a tough act to follow after Davie Jeffery left at the end of last season . Portadown are gaining momentum as they tend to do every 4 or 5 years and are starting to look like a good side again, their manager Ronnie McFall is the longest serving club manager in European football and the current Linfield manager was only 5 years old when McFall took charge at Portadown ,they face each other today. i'll go for a high scoring match 3-2 in favour of the home side :thumbsdown .

the other fixtures are ballymena v Warrenpoint, Coleraine v Ballinmallard, Dungannon Swifts v Institute, and Glenavon v Crusaders .

COME ON YE GLENS!!!

Failed Statelet Pub League forum for this pish...

Good idea, C.DH, even if you're a Glentoran fan.

I think it will be between Linfield and Cliftonville again, with Portadown & Crusaders snapping at their heels. Don't know about the Glensmounting a challenge.

Coleraine will do their usual stunt of half a season good, half a season bad.

Institute for the drop.

Good thread, if only to annoy several of the NI bashing regulars on here.

The Blues will flatter to deceive, but we aren't playing at home this week, even though it's down as a home fixture. All of our games are away until mid-September due to ongoing work at Windsor.

I think it is going to be very difficult to call the outcome of this season's title. Cliftonville have lost the goals of Liam Boyce and the Glens are too young to challenge consistently, although I was speaking to Eddie Patterson at Ardeer the other week and he is hopeful of a good cup run. They looked impressive first half that day but the recent 3-1 defeat to Plastic Whistle is probably an accurate summation of their level. Crusaders could benefit from others slipping up as they are a solid if unspectacular side. Portadown are my dark horses due to their good signings, but God only knows where the money is coming from? Glenavon have splurged too, but I feel that they are too inconsistent to challenge for the league and may be happy to repeat their cup success of last season. Ballymena will beat big teams and lose to smaller ones while my lot will probably finish second.

If the top clubs in this occupied part of Ireland were moved to the Scottish leagues would they find there level in the juniors or amateur level?

Not occupied at all, not junior or amateur level, and most definitely not spelled "there". Nice try though.

The Ports are my dark horses too....... have a lot of faith in Eddie and as I say we'll take points off the title challengers but due to financial constraints just struggle to build a team that'll compete for a title. Great finish last season though.

Great start by Portydown yesterday. If they stay injury free they are more than capable of taking the title, and Ronnie McFall is a tremendously under rated manager. If Glens win on Wednesday then Eddie can expect a few "friendly" texts from yours truly ;)

I think this season's title race could be very exciting. My mate was at Shamrock Park yesterday and said Linfield played well in the first half but that it was like men against boys in the second.

Coleraine off to a flyer - played arguably two of the weakest teams in the division and collected one point.

Excellent 3 points for Cliftonville at Portadown last night, Crusaders draw again, although it is "early days yet".

Bloody Linfield! :angry::angry::angry:

Losing a 2 goal lead at home and eventually losing to 10 men is poor beyond belief, apparently a total cracker of a match right enough,

Makes up for the time I took quite a few colleagues over to Belfast for the unique "delights" of a Big Two game and we led 2-0, only to lose 3-2, with Michael O'Neill orchestrating the comeback.

Disappointed to see my tip losing last night, but over proverbial moon with the Blues, although we are a long way off being title winners yet.

I bet you're someone who gets offended when English fans say similar about our leagues.

Some interesting fixtures tomorrow - Stuttering Coleraine v Revitalised Linfield

Current leaders Ballymena v Dark horses Portadown

Newly promoted (and undefeated) Institute v Defending champions Cliftonville

Inconsistent Glentoran v Bottom of the table Warrenpoint

A great win for Linfield at a ground where we normally struggle. Ballymena are going great guns but I cannot believe they will maintain this form, and a dropped two points for Cliftonville today (hurray!). Another Glentoran win to keep them in the mix, but a disappointing day for Glenavon.

Cliftonville won!

Coleraine getting their bad half of the season out of the way first!

Good win for Ballymena over Portadown.

Bloody BBC site!

I checked my phone in the car on the way back from the Bonnyrigg Rose v Bo'ness game and was so over the moon I came straight on here.

That'll teach me!

Ballymena v Ports game looked like a cracker on the BBC NI round-up. Blues scored two belters v your lot.
