SPFL Development League 2014/15

Recommended Posts

The Development League(formerly known as the Under 20s) kicks off this week so felt it appropriate to start a new thread for the season ahead.

This year the league is extended to 17 teams with newly promoted Premiership side Dundee joining us this season. As a consequence of this it means that teams will have 2 "bye weeks"

The rules have also changed this year with up to 5 over-age players allowed in each squad of 18. Teams can also field 2 trialists.

This weeks fixtures are:

Mon 4th August

Celtic v St. Mirren - Cappielow - 7pm

Thistle v Rangers - Firhill - 7pm

Tues 5th August

Dundee v St. Johnstone - Gayfield - 7pm

Falkirk v ICT - Falkirk Stadium - 2pm

Hamilton v Motherwell - NDP - 6pm

Ross County v Kilmarnock - Grant Street Park - 6pm

Aberdeen v Hamilton - Postponed to be played 11th August

Hearts v Dunfermline - Postponed to be played 11th August

Free Week - Dundee United

The format comprises four groups of four with the winners and runners-up advancing to the quarter-finals. All knockout games will be played over two legs and it is hoped the clubs’ main stadiums will be used for matches.

Is this Celtic accepting they won't beat Legia?

If not, how will they accomodate this + 32 Development League games + Youth Cup + UEFA Youth CL?

County 2 Killie 2

Killie scored first with a great shot into top corner, County equalised soon after with a Stevie Ross header and scored a second before half time with a Ben Frempah header.

Killie deservedly equalised though, after some sloppy County defending . They created enough chances to win.

Sorry no idea of Killie scorers.

1pm pitch inspection for tonight's Dundee v St Johnstone game which should see a return to action for Murray Davidson.

Still no news as to whether or not it's going ahead. We'd have perhaps featured Scott Bain as he's been out for the majority of pre-season.

We're playing a good few over-agers tonight with the line-up as follows: Bain, Sivewright, Kerr, Davidson, Benedictus, Gemmell, Roberts, Colquhoun, Skelly, Wighton, Riley. Murray Davidson and Chris Kane are the only names I recognise from St J's line-up.

Straight away can see the difference there will be in this league this season with the side Dundee have out tonight. Bain, Davidson, Benedictus, Roberts, Wighton and Riley, plus I suppose Kerr, all starting. Should be a much higher standard and although less young players might be involved, those that are should benefit from playing alongside better players.

In terms of betting opportunities, Dundee are 2/1 on bet365, which looks very good. Really good value to be had in this league as you can get huge differences between the teams but the bookies tend to just stick to who is higher in the league etc...

It doesn't look so good now as St Johnstone are 1-0 up. Chris Kane free-kick.
