Brief season preview for Rangers...

Recommended Posts

Hello, I didn't know which thread was best to put this in so here we are! For my football blog I have been doing brief season previews for each side in Scotland and today finished the Rangers and Raith Rovers ones (they come in batches of two!)

If anyone wants to have a read you can do here, and if anyone has any feedback, comments or criticisms then please fire them my way! Thanks in advance!

I would say in all seriousness that any look ahead to how Rangers' season pans out must at least recognise the possibility of a 25 point penalty should admin occur.

This isn't pie in the sky. Nothing appears to be getting done to address the monthly losses we've become used to. A share flotation might help, but the success of any such measure must be in doubt.

I just wanted to be a purely footballing preview and didn't want to go down the road of any financial, off the field stuff because it just becomes far too complicated if I did.

Yes, fair enough - I've enjoyed what you've written and would agree with your piece on Queens.

I'd also agree here with your prediction that Rangers will finish 1st. I do think there's an elephant at the door of the trophy room where Rangers are currently concerned though and the possibility of him barging in and having a huge impact on the 'purely football' side of things during the season is real.

Rangers fans will think I'm merely trolling though.

Bennett, this isn't meant to be an aggressive post - I'm interested in the views of a Rangers fan.

Do you really not think there's much chance of an admin event this season? If so, I this a common position among the fans you're friendly with?

To me, it seems nailed on, short of another source of funding being found in the next few months or a sell-off of some assets (players, MP, etc.). Has something happened since the last accounts were issued that makes you think things are looking more positive?

I'm not wishing this on Rangers - if they can find a way to get the faithful digging down the back of the sofa, good luck to them - but it seems like one of the groups is missing something.

Wrong place for the question though.

Why's that Ted?

The Dundee United bloke asked about his preview of Rangers' season.

It gave rise to some handsome chap introducing the notion of admin and what that might mean for Rangers' title challenge.

The DA is just running with the question in a respectful manner.

Don't be so defensive Tedi.

Is WRK on holiday?

Looks to me like he left a wee PM with MhTh to carry on his work of infecting every Rangers thread with the same old boring nonsense about Admin.

As for DAB....As Tedi says...Ask the same question on the relevant thread and you MIGHT get an answer.

This thread is (as the OP already stated) about the football element and not the finances element.

Sorry, I hadn't realised that a 25 point penalty and shedding players would have no impact on the football.

I still think I'm failing to grasp this club/company divorce thing you've all dreamt up.

Nobody has made any assumptions by the way. I've been at pains to say I think you will win the League, but that admin must remain a possibility. The DA goes so far as to say he's not wishing such a fate upon you for God's sake and his tone is entirely one of polite inquiry.

As I said, why so defensive? Can't we discuss things like adults?

You speak for Bennett now, do you?

Me, too. Even with the hill-walking and Commonwealth Games, it leaves loads of time for baiting Rangers fans. I'm a master baiter, me.

Either that or just a w**k :P

Sorry but that was just too easy

I did Conic Hill the other week..I know it is little over 1,000 feet and it looks easy enough but it kills me. I found the Cobbler easier!!

Getting back to the OP...Good article on both Rangers and Raith Rovers.

My only complaint is you mentioned McCoists lack of tactical knowledge...Personally i don't see that as a problem with him and it is Kenny McD that takes care of most of that side of things anyway. It is more down to his failure to motivate players in the run of the mill league games that annoyed me.

I agree but it must have been difficult to get players motivated for games against amateur teams in the latter part of last season when the league was already won by Christmas.

I'll say one thing, though, his half time team talks must have been excellent as Rangers often scored in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half.
