Serie A 2014/2015

I think the other thread has been going for more than 2 years now, so I decided it's about time to start a new one for the upcoming season to keep things from getting too cluttered. The fixtures are to be announced tomorrow.

The closer we get to the start of the season, the more I think it's possible that someone other than Juventus might win the scudetto. Roma have been pretty busy in the transfer market and I think they have a chance. Inter have also improved a fair bit in my opinion, and I think they might challenge for the third CL spot.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Chievo will line up with all the new signings that have been brought in. A forward pairing of Alberto Paloschi and Maxi Lopez with Valter Birsa playing just behind them sounds pretty decent to me. I think that Corini is a good manager, and could do good things this year since he is finally being allowed to build the team which he wants.

So, thoughts on the new season? Early predictions?

Juventus have signed new players but I don't think they've really strengthened and they obviously have a new managed in Allegri. I still think they'll probably win the league but like you said, Roma were already looking pretty damn good and have made a couple of astute signings. Really, anyone in the sort of Juventus/Roma/Inter/Napoli/Fiorentina camp have a chance of being up there and there's not a huge different between any of those sides I don't think. It will be a very interesting season again though.

Fiorentina haven't been terribly busy in the window thus far, but have signed Romanian goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu from Steaua who should be number one which is better than Neto. They've also signed a young Australian defender called Brilliante but I don't know how good he is. As was the case last season, injuries to Gomez and/or Rossi scuppers their chances severely but hopefully they've gone through the worst and can create a great partnership together. Keeping hold of Cuadrado would be excellent too and the transfer rumours have died down a bit now. I also read that Insigne was jeered by Napoli fans at a press conference and Fiorentina are interested in him, which would be a great replacement for Cuadrado if he does depart.

Gomez, Rossi, Insigne, Cuadrado, Valero with Aquilani and Pizzaro sitting deep would be orgasmic.

I've been looking to take my brother to a Juventus game this season and am looking for advice on getting tickets from anyone that has travelled to an Italian game before. There is a lot of what appears to be dodgy websites selling tickets and dont want to get ripped off. Any advice is much appreciated. Cheers

I've never been to the Juventus Stadium but I think it's quite hard to get tickets. It might be easier to get to an away game against a smaller team.

Chievo are at home (vs Sassuolo) when I head to Verona later this year, so I'm really looking forward to that. If they can avoid relegation again this season it'll be job done to me. Maxi Lopez and Alessandro Gamberini are two good signings - as Zanetti noted, with Paloschi up front as well that should be enough firepower to comfortably avoid the bottom three. I've only ever seen Valter Birsa play a few times for Milan, where he didn't make an impression on me. I'm assuming he come into his own playing for a smaller team, with less pressure on him.

As far as the Scudetto goes, I think it'll be really close between Juve, Roma, and Napoli. Inter will come fourth, while Milan will have another dismal season.

I think Cesena and Empoli will go straight back down, and I can't call who else will be relegated.

I haven't watched much Italian football for a few years but I have decided to try and watch a bit more this year. Despite being a United fan and now despite them signing Ashley Cole I have always had a soft spot for Roma so will try and keep up with them and their games.

Have you been to the Bentegodi before?

I'm a big fan of Birsa, I think that given the opportunity to play regularly he could be a great signing.

I haven't - it'll be my first time visiting the city as well, although my parents third time. I'm assuming tickets aren't difficult to come by? I've had a look at the club website and they sell tickets online; I'll probably buy mine before I leave.

Another solid signing for Chievo, Catania captain Mariano Izco for 1.5m.

Replacement for Luca Rigoni?

It also looks like one of Gennaro Sardo or Nicolas Frey will be moved on, with possibly Davide Faraoni coming in.

Against Sassuolo there will definitely be tickets available for any section of the stadium on the day of the match. Just make sure you take your passport with you.

Football Italia is an absolute godsend.

On a similar note, if you're on Twitter and want to keep an eye on some Serie A and Italian football goodness, you can do a lot worse than following @francescalcio who is the Wikipedia of calcio. Can also follow @thecalcioguy for everything/Milan, @ginkers for Fiorentina, @adz77 and @agiamba for Juventus and @JulianDM11 for Roma. From there you'll get a lot more but they're all great to follow and really know their stuff.

Just watched Borussia Dortmund vs Chievo, not a bad match, finished 1-0 to Dortmund but it really could have gone either way. To be honest I'm happy with how Chievo played, I'm enjoying this 4-3-3 and Thomas Mangani was fantastic, signed from Nancy and he really stood out today.

I'm really pleased with Roma's signings this summer, I felt last year that they had a good starting 11 but an average squad so I'm glad that they have brought in decent squad players whilst improving the 1st team, especially now that they're in the Champions League.

I hope that Benatia stays because him and Castan were outstanding last year, I've admittedly not seen much of Astori and Emanuelson but they should provide adequate cover along with Burdisso and Romagnoli. As much as I don't like him, Cole is a great signing too. Keita and Salih Ucan should fit into the midfield nicely and going forward, Iturbe will suit Rudi Garcia's counter attacking style of play brilliantly. Him and Gervinho on each wing will be great to watch imo.

Simone Scuffet turned down Atletico Madrid apparently, so Roma are now looking at him for 2015. Is that when his contract is up? I'd imagine Udinese will be doing everything in their power to get him to sign a new contract, even if it is only so they can get some money for him.

No, he signed a five year contact with Udinese just last month. If they sell him it'll be for a fair bit!
