DavieCFC Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 After my first ever visit to Murrayfield to watch Celtic yesterday, i really do think the SPFL (or whoever it was that said it) really is serious about ditching Hampden, then this is the venue to move the games too. I dont really care about what the purists about Hampden (the history, its our home etc...), the fact of the matter it really is a disgrace to call this place our national staduim. Its not confortable, the view is utter pish (especially if your behind the goals) and it doesnt hold the atmosphere as well as other staduims in scotland (running track keeping the fans quite a distance away from the pitch really doesnt help). Leave it to host atheltics events, its not gunna enough for big footballing events. The whole set up at Murrayfield is great, its really easy to get to, the setup to get in is very well done and theres plenty of space to get in and roam around when you get inside to just enjoy the occasion. I was really impressed. The national side should take a leaf out of Germany's book and play their home matches throughout the country. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Co.Down Hibee Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 Murrayfield is a superb stadium and if Hampden hadn't been rebuilt then yes I think something could have been worked out for football but the reality is that Hampden has had a lot of money invested in it so it must be used to pay for itself. What does it cost to hire Murrayfield, Ibrox & Parkhead? Murrayfield holds 7000 more than Celtic Park and almost 17000 more than Ibrox. They might well be able to generate enough income from the increased capacities to put as much 'back into football' as they would from the Glasgow clubs. It must surely be the case with Ibrox at least. Anyway, this myth about money better off going to 'football' rather then rugby. How does giving money to the Old Firm help Scottish football? It harms it by giving them additional income. Just what Scottish football needs. The reason Murrayfield isn't used is because of reverse snobbery and the fact it's not in Glasgow, made even worse by the fact it's in Edinburgh. Glasgow is the biggest city and is a traditionally more football-oriented place. Edinburgh doesn't even have a top flight club. I think they could probably manage to segregate it reasonably enough by asking one team to enter through Roseburn Park and the other through the gates across from the tram stop on Roseburn Street. You can wait ridiculous times for a train, normally in the pissing rain. Can't even go into a nearby pub to wait because they are always packed. If they could sort out the transport links and the view from some parts of the stadium,Hampden would be perfect. Just now though I'd have to sway towards Murrayfield.
