Queens Park v Berwick Rangers - The Grand Opening

Recommended Posts

Fitting that the SPFL have chosen this fixture to open the domestic season. One of Scotland's most iconic and historic clubs against the big boys from down south. With sporting fever sweeping Glasgow I'm sure the opening of the Scottish football season add to the occasion. So long as there's no Pitbull....

We seemed to pick up a few knocks on Saturday and Ben Miller is on holiday, so not sure what kind of team we'll end up putting out. Hoping for a good victory though. Hate going out these cups before the league season has even started and a victory could get some early momentum going.

Not the greatest performance but good to get through. Notman was head and shoulders above anyone on the park tonight. We just lacked any ideas up top. Currie and Willis were off the pace and it took DL coming on to worry QP much. Solid at the back, good in DM but poor in attacking positions basically. Plenty to look forward to when Lee Currie and Gray come in.

They looked better than last season to be fair to them, but whether that will be enough, who knows. We were a long way from our best and they struggled to break us down.

Should have had that wrapped up in normal time, highlights had to be Colin Cameron's tackle and the QP shot that looked to cross the line but wasn't given. Bald the hero with the penalty save.

Ps, get it up ye Minty!

Queens Park are laughably bad. They resorted to typical MacPherson cloggers tactics and it wasn't long before knocks began to show.

Cameron had to go off after he slid in and won the ball. The QP lad then stamped on him and pretended to be injured, incredibly escaping a card while Cameron got booked.

The fact the QP lad got sent off for a ridiculous dive in the box says it all. Absolute desperation from a team who created f**k all all game.

As usual DL ruled and totally changed the game when it looked like we were running out of ideas on how to capitalise on our utter domination.

We're deservedly through - QPs penalties were even hilariously bad. Bald had no problem with then all, going the right way every time. Meanwhile the ballboy is still looking for Berry's penalty. I suppose when you sign shit amateur players who have shit names that's what you come to expect.

A final note, I thought the referee handled the sickening abuse he received from the home fans very well. I actually thought he was very good tonight. You Arseholes couldn't wait to tear into him.

The fact that I'm relatively upbeat after losing on penalties demonstrates just how disastrous last season was. We had nine debutants in the starting eleven and competed well against a decent and experienced Berwick side. McPherson should have scored another at the start of the second half and the one off the bar in extra time looked in all the way. No idea if it crossed the line. Berwick hit the post and had another great chance in extra time. Either side could have won.

Disappointed to go out, but I reckon we have enough to work with. Was particularly impressed with McElroy when he game on. He looked like he could cause some real problems if he's allowed to have a run at defenders. I was obviously up screaming for a penalty when Fraser went down, but I think the kindest thing that I could say is that he was "looking for it." I'm hopeful that we'll see improvement once the players are more familiar with each other.

Who is talking shite here,I watched the game and Berwick players were asolutely intent on pushing players around even fouling a player and falling on his head deliberately.

Thought Queens park did well, considering they were playing a bunch of cissys In my opinion.

The foul in the box will be clear, when we see footage of this game, and this will shut you idiots up.

Very promising start and we should beat this mob in the league, as they were no big deal, and did not really concern us when near the goal.

The bald guy never saw much of the ball, and I wonder what game the poster who said he went the right way every time, was watching, are you sure it was not a clyde game as this appears to be your team, you talk one pile of tosh.

That is all

Can only echo Scott's comments. It's good to see QP losing, especially after this Team Player joker's assertion that they'd win the game playing total football. From what I've heard, Vinny Berry hardly touched the ball due to Gus' back-to-front tactics.

I took this game in tonight . And although I agree QP were horrendous , Berwick were too at times. That second Half was so bad that I lost the will to stay for the ET. Both teams created very little . I thought Berwick were cruising and could of up'd a gear or 2 when keeping possession first half but they never. Then QP got a goal back out nothing and the second half was mostly QP with the ball but doing F all with it .

I didn't like McPherson set up and think they will struggle . But Berwick once into a full swing of things will do nae bad.
