forever_blue
was watching some old scrubs programmes on youtube earlier and came across the comments section and the general assumption that scrubs has went down as underrated. is this the case, i seem to remember that in school nore or less everyone watched scrubs? pretty sure it won a fair few awards? imo it was far better written than the likes of big bang theory etc and tried a different approach by making the show about basicly the main characters thoughts and mind. it was like a direct mix of friends and how i met your mother. anyway what is your view and what other programmes do you think are quite clearly underated. yoda
Scrubs and Malcolm In The Middle always got the credit they deserved, certainly in my peer group at least. River Monsters is my shout. It's silly for the most part but very entertaining. Spoiler Alert: It's always a catfish.
The OP
Scrubs was better in the first season or so, when JD was more relatable and less of a zany imbecile. I thought Rome was quite underrated - don't think it polled in pnb's 50 favourite tv shows.
RandomGuy.
Currently working our way through the entirety of Scrubs, they did manage to keep it fresh and keep you interested despite it going on for a while. Quite a few people seem to hate it without ever really watching it though, oddly. The final season is an abomination though, and shouldn't be considered part of Scrubs

Right enough but previous to that it was brilliant. Also Malcolm in the middle I I genuinely forgot about that, brilliant programme.
Guest
Depends how you quantify a show being rated. Things like Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia etc are possibly under-rated in terms of how much exposure they get compared to inferior, more widely watched programmes, but everyone that watches it seems to rate them very highly so they clearly are rated. Shows like Scrubs you could call under-rated because hipsters will slag off anything with mainstream popularity, saying it's TV for morons when in its prime it was a pretty good programme really. mikebhoy123
Arrested Development, Red Dwarf, Firefly, Malcolm in the Middle Arrested Development was the first one that sprung to my mind as well - even before I read your post Always seemed to be on at random times, late at night as far as I remember ? so maybe it never got a fair chance ? Surely everybody accepts Red Dwarf as a classic show though ?

Kyle
Scrubs is an outstanding program that should've finished after season 8. Season 9 was just dreadful, and season 7 is all over the place because of the writer's strike at that time.
captainkev
Scrubs is an outstanding program that should've finished after season 8. Season 9 was just dreadful, and season 7 is all over the place because of the writer's strike at that time. I felt Scrubs started to go down hill around season 5. It was the season where the characters began to become a little too zany for my liking, particularly J.D. and Elliot. By the start of season 8 I was done and thankfully haven't seen any of the infamous season 9. The first four seasons of Scubs are definitely outstanding though. Arrested Development was underrated when it was originally on the air in that it was very much a cult show that didn't get much mainstream attention but was loved by those who did watch it. However, these days it's far more widely known about and it's been revived on Netflix with talk of more to come possibly so is it really all that underrated these days? I would say It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is underrated though. It's absolutely fantastic, but prior to being recommended to it by Netflix a couple of months ago I'd never even heard of it and neither have any of my mates, which is remarkable given how long it's been running for. mrcat1990
Party Down was missed by nearly everyone in the UK and wasn't watched by enough in the US. Two excellent seasons then sadly cancelled.
DAFC
Fred dibnah shows. I could listen to him talk about anything. There was one series where he basically just got 'an apprentice' to drive him around in a traction engine while he stopped at every pub for a pint then ramble stuff to the camera. Destroyed a factory wall once when he left the brake off and rebuilt it himself. Maybe he was the last insight into a different age?
stumigoo
For a large audience Southland was totally missed but it is superb. Been a few one off seasons that didn't get a further chance, and seeing Planet of the Apes with Jason Clarke reminded me of Chicago Code. It only lasted for one series and didn't get a wide audience but I really enjoyed it. It's always Sunny is a show I have dipped in and out of but it is really good. Still not many people I know have heard of it. Shows like Community and Parks and Rec don't get noticed much over here by the big channels but are infinitely better than the shit we get subjected to. BBC for example have the rights to Parks and Rec yet only show it on BBC Four. It would go down really well on BBC Two.
Gareth_Glasgow
Bob's Burgers is superb but seemingly very underrated in Britain. E4 showed it at rotten times with very little advertising though so I doubt many people saw it.
dundee ton
Bob's Burgers is very good and is an example of shitty programming meaning that a target audience is missed. As with Parks and Recreation and Southland as mentioned. I liked The Americans but 10 on a Saturday night is a dreadful time for any non light entertainment programme to go out. Archer was another with weird showing times which didn't get the viewing figures it deserved. Going back, Oz is one of my favourite TV programmes ever but even as a student with no sleep pattern it was terrible to keep up with.

Yeah everyone I know who's watched Always Sunny loves it but it isn't very well known and AFAIK (based on the show's own episode on the subject) it hasn't won any awards despite being genuinely consistently funny. That's where I'm going when I say it's underrated. One other show I actually think is very underrated is American Dad. It's definitely the lesser known and appreciated of Seth MacFarlane's shows but it's again consistently funny and shows that he can do a sitcom that doesn't rely on interchangeable gags with no relation to the plot.
